New Vision Metron TFE Extensions

Bottle design looks great.

Just curious what method of printing and material you are using for the 4D adapter? and why you didn’t use our adapter?

Hi Kevin, thanks for the kudos  I’m sure Vision themselves would make something better, but as there is nothing its the best I can do

I’m using PETG material printed at 45’ degrees (so the laying / grain is against the force applied) for the 4D adaptor.

I have the 4D adaptor (and a set of J bend bars) and all the bits but the lowest possible position is this:

As you can see there is a lot of stack, by the time you use the small metal bottom part, the adaptor (as mentioned) and then the angle adjustment part.

By designing and printing a single piece which contains the correct inlay for the bars, the correct angle required I can remove over 3cm of stack:

This is an old photo from the beginning - but as you can see I’ve removed a lot (3cm) of stack:

Thanks for sharing the information. I agree when the adapter is added the stack height can get a little tall.

I have talked with my team and our engineer that runs our 3D printer and he is recommending you not ride that. He believes the material lacks the strength and will fatigue and fail.

This is just from our observations from the drawing and pictures you provided but please beware based off our experience with 3D printed parts we would not recommend riding that adapter.

Thanks Kevin, duly noted!

I’m a mere amateur, just amusing my curiosity so happy to take any advice given.

I swapped from PLA to PETG for the strength (and better fatigue properties). If your designer has a better material to print in. Let me know!

But will now look at getting it printed / cut in Aluminium locally.

If Vision make something similar, my wallet is here

Oh, while I’m asking. Let’s have a 5D / 6D bar with MAS too

Cheers!

Aluminum will be the best option.

We are always open to develop and improve products based on feedback. I will be sure to forward this information on to the team working on the TFE’s.

We do have a clip on aero bar for the 5D bar but no plans for a MAS version.

Thanks!

Not sure if it fully fits the adapter, but the clip on adapter from vision have lower stack height and was able to fit in the same bolt patterns as the SI013. you lose angle adjustment though. I didn’t really test this on the road though (got lazy, gained some weight, and de-prioritized this project)

Also, if you were planning to make the mottle mount in aluminum (yours look great and lighter though). Quintana Roo makes these

I did look at these, but couldn’t find any in stock - I will definitely order a pair (when I find them) and see if I can get them to fix the 4D adaptors - I loose the bridge for the bottle though, but I’m sure I can make something up.

Looks like they will be ideal…!

As to the Roo bottle thing - wow that’s cool, someone else has made something up.

So… I found a pair of these in the USA and ordered them ($$$!), a few weeks later they arrived - alas the top part has 10mm ‘feet’ which require that 10mm spacer as pictured - so I’m not really any closer to my goal :frowning:

The other issue, is the cross member from the TFE Adaptor set makes the whole thing a lot stronger, than the two independent clip-on mounts. So going to stick with my original plan - that was a fun 80$ game LOL

Hi Kevin,

how can I order the XL extensions in Europe? The European webshop offers only size s-m-l and they are not aware that size xl is available in the US

Thanks

Stefan

I don’t think the xl is available yet. I am on the backorder list and all I see available is small

What the consensus on the TFE pro? I feel like I can get a much higher arm position with aerocoach ascalons while maintaining forearm contact and still being able to adjust the arm rests to 15 degrees for UCI rules. (assuming the new rules are 14cm for me being in the tallest category)

I constantly see the EF pros using these bars and not even resting their forearms on the actual bar because of they don’t actually go high enough. Comparing that to the custom vision extensions that have a much steeper angle and go back down to 15 when it hits the arm pad per UCI but allows you to maintain forearm contact.

I mean, what is the point of a one-piece extension if you aren’t getting forearm contact in your aero position?

Also not sure why it is constantly said on this thread that these bars aren’t UCI legal, they are used by EF all the time…

It looks like the Metron TFE PRO P5 is more in line with what the pros are using. With a steeper angle at the arm but the pad stays 15.

Interesting in adapter for Trek Speed Concept Gen2
.

No ETA at this time but it is on the list to be looked at.

Kevin, do you think the TFE Pro P5 will ever be made available for the masses?

This is a special order only item. It is not something we will stock in large qty’s. You can contact our Sales team at 425-488-8653 and they would be able to help you with the ordering process and ETA.

When I want to use the TFE with my Shimano Ultegra 6700 10speed mechanical shifters,
how is the internal cable routing done?
Normally there are outlets for the bowden cable at the Grip section, but I can’t see them at least on the pictures.

I sent mine back as they’re not compatible with mechanical unless you want to drill holes into the extensions
