New trainer choices

I’m looking at upgrading my current trainer which is a Minoura M50 magnetic trainer to something else. I’ve looked on good old craigslist and saw three trainers all for relatively the same price and was wondering which one I should lean towards. There is the VR Trainer Tacx, the Cycleops Fluid 2, and the Kurt Kinetic Trainer. They are all around the $200-$300 range. Any opinions on which one I should lean towards? I’ve heard many good things about the Kurt Kinetic and the Cycelops but am not really familiar with the VR Trainer Tacx. I know they’re relatively different but if you had the choice which would you choose?

Side note. Just purchased a powertap and will be using it on indoor trainer rides as well. Will be training indoors 2-3 times per week. My focus is to really improve on the bike for Ironman Texas in May.

Thanks.

Use the search. This comes up once a week at least. Consensus is Kurt Kinetic in that price range.

I have used the search but have never seen the VR trainer compared in them too much.

I use the Kurt Kinetic and is bomb proof
.

Hey Andress -
Check out CycleTEK’s M1 trainer: http://cycletek.com/ I’ve been beating mine up for about a month now, and I’m loving it. You can buy one through the site for $379 but I’ve seen some great online deals for the holiday season. Hit me up if you have any questions.

I would just like to point out that 17 of your 20 posts are idolizing this trainer. If you are associated with cycletek that is fine, but don’t pretend like you’re not. Just put a link to it in your signature and contribute to the forums. The more you contribute the more people will see your product.

i have been using a few year old cycleops fluid 2 and thought it was fine. yesterday, i got my hands on a kurt road machine and can’t believe the difference. way smoother feel, love the spin down, and it’s green (which is always better). someone else posted a while back that their fluid 2 feels like riding through sand. after trying the kurt, i agree 100%.

So what if he idolizes the trainer, nothing wrong with promoting a good product that happens to be new. I own the cycleTEK as well, it’s just as smooth as Kurt RM, and “bomb” proof as well - whatever that means. The trainer is being sold by a reputable dealer on ebay for $224.77. Or, fork over the $300+ for the almighty Kurt Kinetic Road Machine.

And your second post…So first guy pushes a trainer on all his posts and you chime on defending him and you have only posted twice and its adveertising the same trainer…

Its not about advertising, its about having a good experience with the product, which is responsive to the forum question about a trainer. Your point about the number of times posting is nonsensical.

Well two people come on a forum only to post about a trainer for people to buy. Call it nonsensical all you want, makes sense to me there is a high probablity it is to promote a product…Out of all the topics in triathalon and two people can “only” post about one specific trainer. …sure

I have a Tacx trainer. Not that particular model - I have a lower end version. I’ve been very happy with mine and have pounded on it over the last 8 winters without issue. All things being equal and based on the responses posted with this board, I think I’d choose the Kurt - customer service is value worth buying. If you read the searches seems as if second hand owners are treated very well.

If the topic was about something other than a trainer, and I posted about the trainer, then you’re arguments would at least be cogent. However, I’ve just responded when appropriate about a trainer I think is a good bargain for the money. I’m not affiliated with the company or the product in any manner, other than as an owner. Really…you go back and look at the number of times a person posted and what it was about, and are what…somehow offended. There are countless people talking about things they believe in on this forum. It’s hypocritical to somehow discredit or criticize someone offering a view of a product just because it oddly offends your sensibilities about posting in regard to that product. Relax, pal.

LOVE my Lemond…but will try the Wahoo for the quietness at O dark in my gargae…

kinda like my tacx fortius, the brake’s pretty good. Software is also pretty nice

I also have a Cycleops Fluid 2. It works fine, but it is like riding through sand. Great for resistance, not so great if you’re looking for a road like feel. I’m 100% confident that the Cycleops Fluid 2 will last a lifetime, and make you a stronger cyclist…but I’m almost on the verge of switching to a KK road machine for the bigger flywheel.

really? It obviously looks like the guy is trying to sell something, and it takes maybe a couple of minutes to go to someone’s profile and look at their previous posts, especially when they only have 20 post total. I’m just sick of seeing people on here who make accounts just to sell their product without contributing valuably, pretending like they’re a consumer.

Relax pal…Ok. I am not offended. Hope to see you in the future contributing to the forum, truly. Guess it was just coincidence, fine with that.
Sometimes i click on a persons nickname to see how long they have been here. Thought it was intersesting it was your second post, not searching, simply that. Hope your on the forum a long time and contribute so I can learn. …About discrediting, well we will see by your future contributtions.

x100…Thanks for posting it. Thought you were rather polite on your post
