New to Biking

Need Help: I’ve been a runner for 25 years. I want to do Ironman in two years and just started shopping for a bike. I know nothing about biking…and am overwhelmed with how much you need to know!!! I’m 5’10…any idea about what size that might be? I’m looking for a bike in the $1000-$1600 range. Have looked at the Specialized Transition Elite and the Cervelo Soloist. Can anyone give me a good recomendation on which may be better for Tri’s. Any other help for someone new to the sport would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

If you really want to do (an) Ironman in two years, here’s what you need to do: get a coach.

read the slowtwitch triathlon bike picker articles at slowtwitch.com. Dan has written quite a bit about entry to mid level tri bikes. this should help you narrow it down. Then try to find a local bike shop that can help you out. There is a list of bike shops that know what they’re doing, as far as triathlon bikes, on the main site as well. for ironman training info check out http://www.byrn.org/gtips/gtips.htm

In that price range I think there are a lot of good tri bikes (in no particular order):
Felt - S32
Cervelo - Dual
Quintana Roo - Kilo
Quintana Roo - Tequilo

You should try to get Tom Demerly or Dan Empfield (slowman) to ring in on this thread. They’re experts at this stuff.

Agree with the picks and I would add Guru as well. If you are looking to do an Ironman length event I would lean towards getting tri bike over a road bike. I know this will stir some emotions but that is my opinion.
