I think the new time trial helmets (like the LG) are reminiscent of Star Wars and SpaceBalls bad guy helmets. Just had to share that one. Nice ride by Lance though.
Totally. LOL especially Robbie McEwen. I have to find a photo of him in that thing
McEwen’s head looked like an orange on a toothpick. Maybe it was just me, but his head seemed to bounce around like a newborn baby’s.
Yeah, I was thinking what are these guys wearing – hair dryers?! If the large helmets are for performance and not safety, then I missed that discussion. If for safety, why do some appear to have so much more surface area than the Giro helmets that were modified to provide protection?
BTW, thanks for the Moranis photo. I always crack up when I see that guy, especially when I think of some of the scenes from Strange Brew.
I think Lance’s helmet helped him achieve “ludicrous speed.”
.
But is the Schwartz with him?
The Lazer helmet was a joke. I liked the Selveg helmet McGee wore, also the Specialized looked pretty good. The Bell, Giro and Limar all look basically the same.
Dave from VA
Yeah, McEwen looked like Kazoo from the Flintstones. I would have just riddn with a normal helmet rather than look like a complete idiot. It’s not like it would have made that big of a difference for him.
And take a look at his front wheel. Depth about 30mm if he was lucky. Whats the point of an aero helmet when he’s losing bigger time by not using a Comete/HED3/Zipp/etc?
Worked for him last year! He used that shallow wheel then, too.
Yeah, it DOES seem like his team cheaped out on his front wheel, or he feels that too deep a rim would be a handling problem for him.
For the prologue, was Lance’s Schwartz bigger than Jan’s?
And ‘may the schwartz be with you’…
It was very interesting to hear Lance talk about how they had to rush to get the new Rev VI certified before the tour, and how it was going to be certified in the US. Let’s hope that it means that we will be able to take out a 2nd mortgage and get one.
