New Sufferfest Videos

I just got onto my email this morning, and to my delight, new videos from The Sufferfest.

I didn’t see a post already, and maybe I’m slow. Any thoughts and opinions?

Looks like I might have my weekend workout sorted now.

I’m excited for them. One of them is a tempo workout, which is … interesting…to say the least. I’ve been off the bike for a month since my tri season ended so this is going to hurt.

Between these and Zwift I’m set for all winter I think.

I just grabbed them and will download tonight.

They’re not synced to Trainerroad yet but hopefully will be in a few days.

I’ll second that motion. The trouble will be in combining them somehow. Get on it Zwift!

Already downloading these new offerings. Add a little spice to the mix…

Yep, we’ll have the workouts available soon

Looks like they are in trainer road. Got my afternoon plans set…

I just did “To get to the other side”. They bill it as base building.

It was WAY different than any other SF video I have ever done. The total intensity was quite low - an early acceleration to 9 for a few seconds, then a whole lot of 5 and 6 with recoveries at 2.
Instead of race footage, you follow one dude the whole time as he gives you a guided tour of some pretty cool climbs (0% race footage). There are little tidbits that pop up pretty regularly. The cool down was a little funny.

Over all, I thought it was boring. If I wanted to go that easy, I’d probably rather just watch a show. It’s definitely my least favorite - and not in the love/hate sense of SF, either.
It was a collaboration video with Col Collective. If this was a blend of SF and CC, I imagine that CC would put anyone to sleep.

I’m guessing the other two are normal sufferfest style.

Also did this one this morning and it seemed a little boring. I was watching college football on the big screen and just running the video in Trainer Road on my laptop, so I didn’t pay too much attention and didn’t listen to the music. It seemed as if the interval power targets on Trainer Road were higher than the PE numbers on the video - at least compared to other workouts. This was one of the few workouts I had to dial back power. It could of been because I did threshold testing yesterday. Oh, and the 4 glasses of wine last night.

It was kind of what I needed today. Didn’t feel like hammering at 9/10. I thought the footage was really high quality and the guided tour aspect of it fit well with the slower pace.

I also did TGTTOS and will agree that it is totally different than other 'fest videos, but I didn’t mind the intensity difference. At 90 minutes and 86% IF it’s still some quality TSS.

It’s true that the lack of race footage and general “feel” was also a bit different, I guess it was a little more negative to me in that regard.

The quality of the footage is great though, yes.

Other minor bummer, I play my 'fest videos on an old Xbox 360 with a USB drive, and given the Xbox only supports FAT32 I had to re-encode the video to allow it to fit on my USB disk. The original was bigger than the 4GB limit for a single file.

Save your money. TGTTOS is not worthy the money. I would have had more fun watching the weather channel.

I had to dial back power as well. The power targets in trainerroad for the threshold segments at the beginning (7.5) were at least 110% of FTP if I remember correctly, way too high. Other segments seemed higher than what was called for as well.

I think this video will inevitably have mixed opinions just based on the presentation. Personally, even though it was not my favorite, I enjoyed the scenery of the different climbs, the commentary and the overall presentation. At less than $10 a pop I have a hard time saying that any SF video is a “waste of money” given that many people I know pay 3 times that for just one “trendy” spin class.

I find the Col Collective to possibly be the most boring bike video I have ever bought. The other two are decent and I’ll add them into my video bike trainer rotation.

I did “Do As You’re Told” last night for the first time. Definitely a challenging workout (though quite short), but I didn’t love the music or race footage. Will be interested to see how I find the two other new videos. Really liked the new ones last year (“Nine Hammers” and “The Rookie”).

Nine Hammers is one of my favorites. Do as You are Told wasn’t bad but it definitely is short. As is their other new race video “The Best Thing in the World”. I end up finishing the video and then doing an extra 10 minutes of warm down just to make it a full hour.

I like 9 Hammers and The Rookie, too…I just downloaded the new videos and plan to throw them into the rotation this winter. I think The Rookie is one of their better productions, though, and hope to see others play out kind of the same way…

This is one that I’ll be adjusting the length to make it a full hour. The beauty of PerfPRO Studio is the ability to clone the workout and add steps to make the workout any length you want (by either shortening or lengthening) and invoking the video back into play to make it all come out right. For example, Revolver and The Wretched are too short (IMO) and Local Hero, Hell Hath No Fury, Blender, and ISLAGIATT are too long for my workout periods.

This was our mistake. TGTTOS was originally published with a bit too much intensity, but it’s since been resolved. As long as you have an internet connection, it should auto update to the correct version next time you log into the app. Sorry about that, but you certainly got a good workout in
