New shoe suggestions - 1 month to IM LOU

I just wore through my second pair of Newtons and want to switch to a different shoe with a longer wear life and more nuetral mechanics. I’ve hit about 300 miles on the Gravity trainers and I’ve worn the outside 1/2 inch of the heel and the two outside pads to the point where I can feel the wear on longer runs where my form starts to break down. I know they haven’t transformed me into a forefoot runner and I feel like they make me more susceptible to injury once worn out a bit so I want to stray away from them.

For a little history I started running in Asics DS Trainers. I went through two pairs in two seasons with mostly even wear. I switched over to Newton and since then I’ve had a pair of the racer and now the trainer and both have worn quicker than my DS Trainers causing me to believe that the pads in front cause me to drag my heal more when I’m tired resulting in the wear.

Can anyone recommend what direction I should go in? I’ve been looking at a more minimal shoe like the Saucony Grid Type A3 and A2 and some other more “flat like” shoes but aren’t sure if that’s the shoe for me or if I will feel too much of a difference in the shoe one month out from IM Lou. Any help is much appreciated.

I’d suggest something with lots of drain holes (Zoot, A2/3 etc.) since you will dumping water on your head and sweating like a Mofo. That is one hot “run”

Were you Newton’s 09’s? They have seriously increased the durabilty for the new 09’s. I have both the racers and the trainers for 09 and they hold up much better.

I’m not certain on the trainer. The racer was an 08 bought in septemberand i bought the trainer in March of this year so it might be an 08 model also. I don’t think I can justify another pair without trying something different.
