New Paltz During American Zofingen

I just signed up for American Zofingen and it would be great if there was something interesting to do for my wife while I am out there for I don’t know how many hours. Does anybody know of some fun event she could attend on Oct 12 in the New Paltz area? Could range from a workshop (like pottery or similar), to a crafts fair, or spa special … I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Drive 15 minutes to Gardiner and do a skydive at Blue Sky Ranch. Or drive up to the Shawangunk mountains and hike around.

New Paltz has a ton to offer…just walk around and you’ll find something no problem. I used to drive 3.5 hrs a few times a month to go climbing/skydiving up there. It’s one of the coolest places on the east coast. Also check out Gourmet Pizza for the best Sicilian (or stuffed) pizza I’ve ever had.

What he said…
New Paltz is a great little town, there are a ton if things to do in and around New Paltz.
Not sure what your wife likes to do, so I’ll throw some things at you.
There is great Hiking around there, check out the Mohank Perserve, they can provide her with maps and route suggestions.
There are some nice little stores right in town, so she can do some shopping, also has some nice cafe’s to grab a coffee and a sandwich.
Go here for spa services http://www.mohonk.com/the_spa/spa_overview.cfm
If she likes wine http://www.shawangunkwinetrail.com/.

There are many more things in and around the area, getting bored is not one of the things that you will need to worry about.

There is a great brewpub at the edge of town that I would hit after the race.

I hope you don’t mind me jumping in on your thread, but I’m also looking for some New Paltz info for AmZof. I’m looking for a cottage to rent in the area. It needs to be able to handle 8 - 10 people. I’m trying to set up a Gals of Slowtwitch east coast get-together in New Paltz for the AmZof weekend. I’ve found some on vrbo.com, but I’m hoping I can get a recommendation from someone local.

Thanks!

great head shops, music store, I got a great hair cut their to
The pizza is great

Thom.

all the a.z. threads … love it!!

let’s not let it it get too popular though, small and chill, and a bit on the hilly side…

re: what to do with your wife… mine will also be there, it’s a great venue to hike, take a drive on the bike loop and harass the riders, check out he foilage, hike along the trails and harass the runners etc…

pack some sleep gear so she can nap, and hopefully the weather will be like last year, absolutely perfect.

october down there is such an amazing place, hill ride and trail runs, hill rides and trail runs…

She could hire a guide and go rock climbing at the Gunks, which is a world-class rock climbing venue, noted for its excellent moderate routes.

Hiking and biking in and around the area is awesome as well, and the fall foliage is spectacular.

There are plenty of shops in town, plus lots of bars and restaurants (NP is a college town, SUNY New Paltz), etc.

Hit the Gilded Otter at the edge of town for some freshly brewed beer - in Oct they have a special Pumpkin Ale, that you can order mixed with their Stout (kinda like a black and tan) called a Stumpkin - it is AWESOME.

Skydiving would be cool.
(I got Mrs ML a gift cert to do that for her 40th b-day, and she still hasn’t used it yet. maybe this year…)

Plenty of options to keep anybody busy for a day, or much longer.

Bump for the morning crowd
.

The falls leaves will look awesome so hiking is a great option for her, also New paltz has lots yoga and pilates.
Check the mohonk preserve they might have a talk or an organised hike that day.

there’s a wine trail you can follow down route 9W. Stop at a few winerys for some sampling and a few purchases. The Hudson valley has some great wine on both sides of the river, Millbrook over on the east side, but; that’s a little far.

Mohonk mountain if she’s looking to relax and take in the scenery and read a book.

West point isn’t too far south either. If the football team is at home the place will be even more active than usual. That’s a nice walk around trip to do as well.

Dude, Mrs. ML IS NOT 40 !!! bald faced lies and mis-information! she married your broken down ass and a pure charity case. just becuase you are in your twilight years now is NO REASON to drag the lovely and talented Mrs. ML down with you.

How very sad.

To the OP - she will have TONS to do. lots of eclectic little shops, the GUNKS climbing scene, walking on the carriage road, drinking at the OTTER. swimming, watching you!! Its a great place.

Thanks so much to everyone for responding. Sure will be a fun weekend for both of us!

ROTLFLMAO !!!

The venue itself is one of the most beautiful spots on the east coast. At the pavilion transition area will be a great group of people, as well as delicious food and beer. It’s a short drive from the heart of New Paltz, if she gets bored, but in the last 3 years, no one’s gotten bored. I remember last year at one point when I returned from the course to the transition area, and there were a couple of dozen people seated on the grass, all facing the same direction as if there was a show on. They were all just enjoying the view. It’s that beautiful.

Except that I heard you learned a new rain dance for this year, John…hard to see that beauty through a blinding storm!

No rain dance needed. All I need to do is toe the start line, and it rains. And I’m racing this year, so prepare to get wet. And cold. It will make Lake Placid 2008 seem like tea at Buckingham Palace.

Wait, I want to sell this event out. For anyone thinking of racing, it’s going to be 58 degrees, sunny and no wind.

Yeah, and you were registered to race the prior 2 years as well… how’d that go?

(of course, that’s why the weather was just lovely for those 2 events)

I still can’t figger out how you got the full-on Zofingen weather experience for us that first year, given that you were in full-on RD mode that day?

(or how you got Des Ficker to come cheer. Seeing her clad in HVTC kit, made me wanna sign up on the spot! hahaha!
Holy bait-and-swtich, BatMan!!!
