New P2 vs pre-2014 P3

What’s a better buy if the fit works on either and price is similar. New P2 105 or 2013 P3 ultegra?

Thanks

This would be a tough one for me…the '11-13 P3’s have the same fork as the P4…so they are just as good as anything out there without an integrated front end…the fork on the new P2 is different than the ones on the new P3’s…a lot of people seem to forget that, it’s a totally different shape.

Also…the older cervelo bikes are able to utilize the xlab that mounts to the seatpost for rear hydration…I really like that setup better than the newer cervelo options…

But…the real thing to consider is what kind of wheels you will be using…the older P3 was not built for these newer wide rims/tires…I can run zipp 808’s with 25mm conti’s on my 2012 P3…

I honestly doubt there is much difference to be found for most of us between these 2 bikes…

i’ve had a classic p3 most of this year and just am swapping it out with a “new” p2. compatibility, integration, and fit make the biggest differences for me.

I think you have the model years confused.

The 2013 P3 is the same as the current P3 (otherwise referred to as “New P3” and “New P2”). The difference is in the paint job and some stock parts. 2013 was the year the NP2/3 was released.

The P2 and P3 are the exact same frame and fork (ok, the P2 fork is apparently 1mm thicker). The geometry is also the same as the P5. The front half of the P2/3 is the same as the P5 too. This generation of the bikes can run wider wheels. There are basically no limits with the NP2/3.

In this scenario, I’d take the P3 Ultegra - better groupset, better bars. Or, go with the paint job you like best.

EDIT
Sorry, I got it confused. You were correct.

Go with the NP2.

Thanks all. I’ll have to decide if I’m upgrading to wider rims but likely stay with 23mm. I’m not a huge fan of the 2013 paint job. So torn on this decision.

The NP2 is the same as the NP3, frame wise. The old P3 is slower. I wouldn’t be torn with the decision at al.

I have a 2016 P2 with Shimano 105 group set and like it very much. I got the shiny black paint job. I bought it for the frame anticipating upgrading stuff down the line. Someone mentioned rear bottle cages. What is the best solution for this bike? I’ve been looking at the X-Lab stuff but it’s pretty confusing what to get. I also have seen some nightmare posts about cracking the seat post and / or mounting hardware. I just want a single bottle back there with the aero pouch for my flat kit. Any advice or guidance in this area is appreciated (sorry to hijack the thread)!

Thanks Bryan D - avoids the carbon altogether and is the most solid (attaches to seat rails)

If you use an ISM saddle you will need the Delta 425

Thanks. I have an ISM Adamo Prologue with no transition hook, so I think I am good with the 400?

I’m not sure. The 425 was made specifically for ISM saddles. You’ll have to look at the differences on the Xlab website

OK thanks - it looks like on the XLab site the prologue is OK with the 400. I appreciate the help and guidance.

Can’t say enough good things about the Minoura single bottle cage, and it’s only $10.

The front fork on the P2 is not the same…totally different…there is a reason behind it…or else why even have both a P2 and P3…

Thanks Ender. That’s a crazy price difference from the X-Lab stuff, which is like $100! But I also need to put my spare kit back there, hence the X-Lab solution (aero pouch).

They make a double carrier as well, use a storage bottle  also only $10, and you can bend to any angle

yea, it’s worth about 1s/ironman.

Whatever dude…I’m just pointing out the facts…there are so many people that want to come on here and say the P2 and P3 are the same bikes…they are not…take the facts and interpret them anyway you want…It is pretty easy to find information about the fork being different…cannot say the same for there being only a 1 second time difference over 112 miles…

I have had a P2… great bike… would ride one again no problem…

Yea…except the designer of the bike said 1s/IM. The P2 and P3 are the same bike.
