I’m not affiliated with the race but i just got the email announcing it.

cool, I’m moving to SD in 2 weeks and was looking for a ‘welcome to cali’ race. But $185, yikes (#1)

Yikes #2:

looks like monday’s tour stage!!!

I wasn’t kidding when I said it was going to be a hard climb.

Nice!

I have base access, so i can post a real garmin file of it if anyone is interested.

I have a garmin file of it…I run that damn hill two times a week! The actual climb will start at the turn-around on the sub base…slight up hill, the left on mclelland, its short (less than a mile), but steep, and the climb doesnt really end once you hit catalina, you still have a slight upgrade to the entrance of the national Cemetary. Good news is, rosecranes is newly paved from talbot and onto the base. towards the end of rosecranes (on base) there are speed bumps, big ones too, but enough room on each side to get around them.

In the future, if anyone wants to ride it, let me know, i will escort you on base…we can ride it together…Has to be during the week, mclelland gate is closed on weekends…

it would have been awesome if they included the hill down by the tidepools.

Agree on the awesomeness. Insurance might have been an issue.

There won’t be huge packs on this course unlike the SDIT course, the climb will separate people nicely. it will definitely separate the men from the boys.

Looks like the same bike course as the SD International in June. $185 is just too much for an Oly. I signed up for Magic Mountain Man, on the same date, but $190 and it’s a half IM.

i agree. it’s simply not worth it to me.
peggy

the difference is the climb through the sub base and that’s a major difference. I am doing to do the sub base climb tomorrow for repeats i’ll let you know how it is compared to cannon.

As for the price, It’s San Diego and we have so few races as it as, what can you do? Again, I am not affiliated with the race at all.

I am really bummed that CP canceled their olympic this year, that was my favorite San Diego race.

Showers at the transition area, man, who can beat that?

MMM looks to be a tough course, you must be a glutton for punishment, but I guess we all are. =]

So few races in SD? Are you kidding? Maybe Olympic, yeah with SuperSeal being the only full Oly other than this one, but there are sprints like every three weeks- Encinitas, Solana, Carlsbad, Camp P, Imperial Beach, Mission Bay has 2 or 3, etc., etc. Camp P canned the Oly after 2007, right? There was/is only the Camp P Sprint since 2008.

This was the first year with no OD at CP.

I’m not a fan of sprint races, I can do work outs for free that are longer, to each his own.

I was looking at last year’s races, and saw I didn’t do the Camp P, so for some reason thought they didn’t have it, but then realized I did IMLP which was around the same time, which is why I didn’t do it.
I agree about sprints. Paying $$$ to do a one-hour race is not worth it to me, but the Camp P Sprint in August was only like $60 and I live 20 minutes away, so that’s my one for the year.

Well, then sign up before September 10. Then it’s only $155.

doesnt even compare to canon, talbot yes, but not canon…canon is long with gradual climb, Mclelland is shorter and steeper from the get go! enjoy

Hey Slowtwitchers. I see you have discovered our race. Its only $185 if you wait until after September 10th. Register before that and the fee is $155. If you are a card carrying active member of a tri club (and can prove it on registration day with your card in hand) we are offering a discount of $30 for the Oly and $15 for the Sprint. Enter olympic101009 or sprint101009 to receive your discount during checkout.

Stay tuned for additional details. Its going to be a great race, come out and join us.

I have been climbing a lot of hills lately, but i did 1 ascent up the seaside, 3 up the bayside, and 1 up the seaside today at lunch. I was riding a single speed 48/16. The hill felt a lot more like cannon that i was expecting. I think Lusk Road in Mira mesa is harder. I am going to ride Honey Springs Road in Chula Vista on Saturday with the Pulse guys. Honey Springs is a completely different level. You should come do the ride.
