New HR strap Polar or Wahoo?

Cashing in those Christmas gift cards and noticed my current Hr strap a base model
Wahoo ticker (last version not current) is getting a little iffy at the connectors and will likely break soon. Had the same issue happen with a Wahoo before. However I’ve had pretty good luck and that’s after over a years of usage. So I’m going to replace my strap before it breaks. Is it worth it to go the the Polar h10? Or save $30 and go with another tickr? Am I missing anything important by not getting super fancy on my HR strap? Do the Polar’s last longer? Because if they do could actually be cheaper in the long run.

Before someone says it…. Yes I loved the garmin hard strap. But I need Bluetooth to connect to my phone. If Garmin is reading this…. Make the hard strap with Bluetooth and we will be eternally grateful haha.

I have both on on a given day the wahoo is more like to be working. The polar seems to kill batteries faster. The wahoo snap connectors corrode over time, but I never ever wash it

I prefer the polar h10 strap. I’m not a fan of if the clasp for the wahoo tickr

ive used both, dont care for the wahoo. the band on the wahoo seems to loosen itself up easier than any band ive used, polar stays in place.

Polar or Garmin have done much better for me than Wahoo.

  1. Wahoo snaps seem to corrode quickly
  2. Wahoo has come undone under my bit multiple times while trying to adjust.

Wahoo is now reserved for morning HRV measurements as it’s always clean and dry.

I have used Wahoo transmitters on Garmin straps and that works well / avoids the unsnapping while riding issue.

I gave up on Garmin straps as they very rarely last 12 months
Currently using Decathlon’s own brand as it has a 24 month guarantee and no problems so far
.

DCRainmaker just had a review of the Polar H10 and had a nice comparison among the different straps.

Might give that a gander (link)

I have both and both are fine for HR. The Polar strap seems to stay in place better on my chest but YMMV.

I use the Polar for HRV data as conversations with Marco Altini (HRV4Training), one of the gurus of HRV, has found the R-R data from the Polar to be accurate and the Wahoo much less so.

I had a worn Tickr that among other things I think was causing Fulgaz to freeze. I went with a Polar HR10 and have been pleased with the comfort of the strap and the quick responsiveness and never losing a beat. The only knock (a small one) is it takes the CR2025 battery whereas all my other things are CR2032 and a single battery to have spares is nice.

Are you committed to the chest strap? I switched to the Wahoo armband a couple of years ago and it has been fantastic. Then again, I always hated chest straps to begin with.

Somewhat yes. Not because of lag or accuracy. But because I’m a disorganized mess and if I have to charge my HR monitor I’m likely to forget and end up with using the shitty ass wrist monitor all the time. Or I’ll lose the charger and really be pissed.

I’ve gone thru a few, as in three, Wahoo sensors pretty quickly. Not a fan. I bought this from Amazon, cheap and works!

Keep charging cord with other devices. I can’t even tell you the last time I charged my armband. I’ve charged my 920 many times since I charged the armband. And way more comfortable!

Initially I thought I’d have the same issue. However, I solved it by having the charger plugged in full time in the bathroom area that I get dressed in for rides. So, the band is either on my arm or on the charger. Even so, the battery life is something crazy like 30 hours so even if I forget to plug it in a few times it’s never an issue.

If you want to save a little money the polar h9 is pretty much the same as H10. The only differences are H10 has internal storage (but if you are connecting it to a phone/watch you don’t need that), and can connect to two Bluetooth devices rather than just one.

Unless you want HR data from swims

I was thinking that. Basically got $95 of gift card to spend. So it’s either spend it all in a h10 or some on a h9
