New Garmin Edge 840 when?

Anyone have any knowledge when this might be released?

Does it even exist.

I was going to buy the 830 and then someone said today that the 840 is coming soo but had zero proof

@GPLAMA or DC?

You’re not likely to get any leaks here from us… if such a product existed.

I’d also update the post subject so as not to piss people off. I clicked it with a raised eyebrow in the hope I’d learn something about the “New Garmin Edge 840”… and now I want a time refund!

Refund here too.

I actually saw the title, went to another website to verify (won’t mention the name, but it’s the other one above  , then came back here to see how someone got the scoop on that website.

So back to the OP, I’d suggest you settle for using either a FR955 or a Fenix 7 LTE for now until garmin releases the 840. You’ll get most the same features anyway, with the bonus of realtime hydration sensor that won’t of course work bar mounted.

So should I wait?

So should I wait?

No, I’d update the subject right away.

I already had.

Haha.

Would you buy an 830 in the next few months?

OMG, LMAOROTF!!!

That was classic

Would you buy an 830 in the next few months?

Option A: No, tomorrow’s tech is always just around the corner and is that incremental bit better. Better wait (and then wait for the 850 as by time the 840 is out someone will be leaking specs for the 850…)

OptionB: If you need a head unit now, then get the 830. It’s sound, works, the bugs have been ironed out from the first version of firmware (actually the 830 wasn’t the worst offender here, but you get the idea) and most 840 software features are likely to trickle down based on Garmin’s recent past form.

Get a 1030+.
When you’re a few years older and your near vision starts to let you down, you’ll be pleased about having the extra big sceen

Yeah, my next head unit will be a 1040 (whenever it comes out). The 530 does the job for now, especially for datafields, but for navigating and maps, the larger screen is easier on the eyes.

This has also been on my mind as my 820 plus no longer has the battery life to handle the longer rides I’ll be doing next year and the screen is cracked. Looking at past Garmin history, the next step would actually be an 830 Plus, and and we’re overdue for that based on past replacement cycles. I don’t think we’re overdue for a full generation update to an eventual 840 yet.

But these days with supply chain issues etc., past product introduction patterns probably mean little. So who knows? And DCR or GPLama are certainly not going to violate their NDA’s and immediately put themselves out of business.

Anyone know if the Wahoo Bolt v2 has worked through it’s launch issues? My Garmin 530 is not functioning well anymore, would rather not just buy a new one.

It would be nice if Garmin & Wahoo both had edge to edge displays instead of all that wasted black space border. My 510 randomly will shut down with a full battery on its own after about 5 miles or 6 miles of biking and then if I restart it, it is fine but picks up from 0.0 miles. So 2 starts per ride. Time to upgrade but have nursed it along even with all the updates–& it still shuts off every other ride it seems. Getting lots of feedback former Garmin friends/users that like the Wahoo Bolt 2 overall better, but the chest strap for Wahoo blows donkey chunks.

The first reply could well give you a fairly big clue not to hold your breath for an 840.

One way to think of it. Everyone knew the Fenix 7 was coming eventually. It had been an especially long time since the Fenix 6 release. Rumors of a Fenix 7 release “very soon” started over a year ago. It wasn’t until earlier this month that we got a specific date tied to those rumors (January 18th). So unless your rumor has a specific date tied to it, you could be anywhere from 1 week to 1 year before launch.

Yeah I just bought the 830.

So I hope there isnt an 840 coming soon or that DC rainmaker bags the device.

Donkey chunks!
I hate chest straps. The never seems to work consistently for me. I dropped them and wear a wrist based/upper arm strap. I have mine set up for the underside of my wrist. Consistent readings and easy to use. I’m using the wahoo unit.

I really love my Garmin head units. I have a 500 (I need to sell that thing), a 530 and 1030. I use my 530 for Tris/racing and the 1030 for roadie. No issues ever.
