New Foot Pain Lateral/Arch (Cuboid)

Right now there are plans to see the Dr next week.

Last week I was out of town traveling, but still running. Similar surfaces to where I normally live (mixture of treadmill/road/trail). Mileage/intensity were consistent. However I walked around for quite a few hours sightseeing one day. The next morning, I had a fairly severe pain on the outside (lateral) of the arch on my right foot. I later ran on it, and the pain felt better while running then walking.

I have run on it a few times since, with many days off with mixed results. Either I can run and there is minimal pain or I try to run and the pain is at a level in which I do not wish to run.

Sometimes the pain is non-existant during the day, other times it feels like a dull ache. Sometimes the pain goes away if I walk around more. It started off far more sharp but the pain has dulled some.

I sit at a desk most of the day for work. Sometimes it almost feels like that same area of my foot is falling asleep, or at least a similar feeling, not quite pins/needles. For the most part the pain is always there (low level). I do feel like when I am wearing ‘work’ shoes that the pain does dissipate some compared to barefoot at home, or in running shoes.

I have fat/flat feet, and run in a mixture of flats (Brooks ST4/T6) and netrual (Ghost), none of the shoes have excessive mileage. I always stretch after runs, this may have been the only thing that changed while traveling (in that I believe my stretching routine may have been shortened). I do not wear any special supports/orthotics when running, but I do everyday in regular shoes.

Some mornings it is a sharp pain, but when I start walking it dulls.

I do slightly overpronate, but land with a well defined midsole strike. ~35-45miles/week.

Any insight?

Thank you much. Little information available on the internet. Basic treatment seems to be stay off. Then reset the bone, and if it is real bad a boot?

My son had a cuboid problem while running XC last year. I took him to a Chiro that does a lot of work with endurance runners in the are and after the first visit he felt great and was able to run. We went back for a secon visit a week later and the problem seemed to have gone away. The place we went is certified in ART as well. Good luck!

about right (if accurate). Arch/low dye strapping can definitely help if trying to train through it (since most do as it can take months to resolve, esp with your described foot type). If getting worse or more consistently painful (your mentioned yours is intermittent), need to rule out a cuboid stress fx (the progression of cuboid syndrome).
