New Factor Slick just announced today, it looks very interesting for sure. Any thoughts on it? It looks like it checks many boxes for medium and long course triathletes and a decent price point too when compared to many of the new superbikes.
Trying to post a link but Factor site isn’t working for me.
There was a little mention of it on GTN’s Kona tech video - but it’s kind of insane they didn’t have RVB on the bike in Kona. Assuming it’s at least as fast as the Hanzo.
Geometry wise it is old skool, I wonder which brand is the first to add more reach so we are no longer depending on 3rd party reach extenders and that sort of stuff. Also seat angle of 76……i think the new tri bikes should have a minimal of 79 degrees
Maybe trying to move to less proprietary hardware and self-owned mold complexity? Idk, but if it tests as well as an integrated cockpit (doubt it, but maybe because of the massive top tube bento minimizing vortices off the stem), I’d choose a frameset like this for the ability to drop in my own aero bar setup without being barred by weird steerer diameters or fork integrations.
It looks like a very pricepoint oriented design - ease of manufacture and minimising proprietary parts. Doesn’t mean that it’s slow, just that it is simplified.
And of course, being Factor, their idea of pricepoint is a little higher than others.
Democratic geometry is an interesting description.
My guess is the ease of traveling. The Hanzo really limits the amount of rotation of the bars and the basebar slides up and down the “stem”. I don’t think you could remove the basebar for packing without disconnecting the brake hoses, but it isn’t easy to make a frame that is 15mm wide without some compromises.
445 reach on a 58 is probably the longest out there. Too bad there isn’t a 61 with 455 or so. I’ll probably swap to the first frameset that gets me more than the 454 on my p3c…
As a consumer (based in Australia so prices in AUD), at first when I looked at it I thought finally a decent spec disc brake bike for around $8-9000 AUD when the prices of most competitors over here are a fair bit north of $10K. Whilst the bike doesn’t look particularly groundbreaking or have any “wow” factor, I thought the price was decent.
Then I checked and that price was basically just the module only with no groupset or wheels. It then comes in at $12K with groupset and wheels, so by no means a bargain although it feels a bit sad that in this day and age you have to spend north of $10K to get something like this. Triathlon was way way cheaper when I first started…
