Wondering what everyone thinks are the best triathlons in New England? Especially upcoming ones. Thanks.
timberman is the best known; lobsterman in sept is a great time, especially if camping out the night before
.
Timberman
Mooseman
Firmman in RI that is held in Sept is a great race with an ocean swim.
all of these listed below and a new one in southern maine PumpkinMan are on my list.
Timberman and Mooseman.
I haven’t done the Cranberry Country race but have heard plenty of good things about it. I believe it is coming up in the next few weeks.
Firmman is great. Nice 1/2 with rare ocean swim. Cranberry Country is probably my favorite Oly. Well-run race, flat, very fast course, and good barbeque afterwards.
Check out http://www.firm-racing.com/ for the schedule of many races in MA.
Timberman, definitely, although it’s been sold out for quite a while if you’re thinking of entering. What I like about Timberman and Mooseman (in June) is that they’re much more than triathlons: they’re really great events with a down-to-earth atmosphere that can make things fun for family and friends staying in the transition area all day waiting for you. The courses are challenging, the swims are in clean water, and you’ve got lots of cottage places to choose from if you want to spend some time in the area. I’ve heard a lot of praise for Lobsterman as well.
I’ll add…
I hear Pumpkinman is close to being sold out…
(at least that is what the RD/wife of mine keeps telling me.
As far as other great races besides Keith Jordan’s and Cranberry check out some in the Trimaine series. The Urban Challenge looks pretty awesome this year up in Portland.
Check out the Litchfield Hills Olympic Tri in New Hartford Connecticut. It used to be called the Greater Hartford Tri…talk about pristine water…you can actually drink it. FAST downhills on the first half of the bike, followed by some pretty brutal uphills. Not a big triathlon, but it was a nice quiet venue when I did it.
I am definitely biased since I am the RD…but www.pumpkinmantriathlon.com is going to be a hit! The bike course is 17 miles of rolling roads, all along the beautifully maintained Eastern Trail. I ride this course often and I don’t think I have ever encountered more than 2-3 cars during the entire ride. The 5K ends right back at the beach where the party will begin!
Make a weekend out of the race. 15 minutes for downtown Portsmouth, NH…20-25 minutes from York Beach or Kittery Point, Maine. Lot’s of great food all local small town restaurants and great local vendors at the Expo, including Aegis who donated a bike frame! Also Xterra recently joined with us and is exclusive wetsuit sponsor and has donated a wetsuit!
The race is now part of the Exclusive www.tri-maine.com race series!
Come and join the fun and help to donate to our Athletic Boosters of our local high school!
The Fairlee Great Triathlon (Fairlee, Vt.) was very good. Sadly it is no more. Needs an RD to resurrect it. Maybe KJ could do it.
good chance we’ll have an Intl distance and sprint distance tri July 12-13 next year, to fill the gap left by Fairlee’s departure:)
.
LOL at that signature addition…
been there since IMLP! Did I mention you are helping me patrol the venue!
I will have Carter go up to people and tell them to kill the butts.
KP
Hey KP, how about bringing a race back to Lake Sunapee,NH. I did my first and 2nd IM there and loved the area. Very challenging but fun. Super nice people in NH. Stayed at a really neat B&B called the Blue Goose Inn.
If you’re on the Vineyard come over to the Bend in the Road Beach on Sundays at 7AM. We hold an informal “training” race every week; it’s been going on for over 10 years. Strictly sprint: 1/4 mile swim, 8 mile bike, 3.1 mile run. This is bandit racing at it’s best; no permits, no entry fees, no cops, no awards. Everyone keeps track of their own time splits (or not…), looking for weekly improvement at a personal level as well as head to head. Plenty of hard core racers as well as first timers show up; lots of good-natured support.
Is Pumpkinman sold out yet, my wife and I want to do another tri after timberman?
I would also check out the O.D. West Kennebunk Tri in June. The location and ocean swim are awesome. It’s a smaller venue but if your lucky enough to get some good weather the location is just beautiful.
