Looks like another winner. Definately a market for this bike since the carbon 2.5 is relatively expensive. Like what Giant has done with the TCR offering it in aluminium or carbon.
“Definately a market for this bike since the carbon 2.5 is relatively expensive.”
The problem is that there are a zillion compact geometry aluminum frames out there. All of Cervelo’s other frames have something that differentiates them somewhat from the pack. The only thing that could make the R1 advantageous would be a low, low selling price and it’s going to be mighty hard to beat Giant on that one.
It seems to me that Cervelo might be better focused by addressing the availability issues of the P2K, P3, Dual, and R2.5. But that’s just my stodgy old guy opinion.
You could be right. The R1 would be going head to head against the TCR. It’ll have to be price competitive against the TCR. The only advantage might be if it’s offered in more sizes than the TCR as is the Soloist.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the Soloist frame weighs? I think I read that the R1 prototype had a 2.6lb weight. It would be cool if cervelo had a soloist (or R1) with carbon seat stays to eat up a little of that road vibration.
I am thinking about getting a new road bike. This one looks nice. I have a small amount of unexpected money coming and I was thinking about a Colnago with Campy. I would definitely have to look at this since I root for Team CSC now.
The soloist team weighs in at 3.2 lbs. or 4.1 with the fork according to Excel sports.
Nice!! Gerard…if you have a spare 51, I can test it out.
