New Boardman TT frame

It may look understated but this beast has credentials…

Interesting…waiting to see the details…

What details are you waiting to see?

It’s expensive at £2500 for frame+fork, internal cable routing, vertical drop-outs, slack and steep positions.
I’d expect the frame to produce excellent numbers in the tunnel, Katsanis has been building aero frames for over ten years. Moreover, it’s based on the UK track model which needs no introduction.
I suspect that the benefits of this frame are subtle compared to the competition.

I like, just based on the geometry numbers. It is really hard for me to find a frame with a TT that is long enough and a HT that is short enough, that’s why I’m on a 51 cm P2SL (at 5’10") with the seat in the rear position and a 120 mm stem. riding out of the saddle, that isn’t a great setup. I like that even the M frame has only an 8cm HT.

Well the UK track guys seem to exploit the short head tube with custom made aerobars which have, in effect, aero spacers. A simple way of getting narrow on the front end of the bike.

I agree. Except for the weirdness going on near the rear dropouts, it looks quite a lot like a P2C. Nice graphics, though.

.

In terms of market postioning I think it’s overpriced but they may be using it as a way to recoup some of the original design costs. Rumour has it our boys will be unveiling a new bike pre Beijing.

My point it is what is this offering over the usual Cervelo/Specialized/Felt choices ?

More of a P2C/P3C hybrid. That is, it has the seat tube of the former, but the short head tube of the latter (in fact, the head tube might even be shorter than on a P3C - which makes it attractive to me - but I didn’t check the geometry chart to know for certain).

I agree about the graphics - the yellow in the inside of the fork legs is especially eye-catching.

Also intriguing is the proposed road frame…

<yawn>

Another “adjustable seat angle” bike that compromises pretty much everything… No thanks.

The HT is 8 cm on the S and M frames. 12 cm on the L frame. I think the M frame is roughly equivalent in the TT to a 54 cm P3C, but with a 25mm shorter HT, if I remember the Cervelo geometry tables correctly.

what does it compromise?

" I like, just based on the geometry numbers."

i dislike, just based on the geometry numbers. front/centers are too short, head tube too short on the M, road bike steering geometry instead of tri bike steering geometry. imho it’ll be a bad handler compared to a cervelo, a cannondale slice, a felt.

The weight balance might be “okay” at 74 degrees, but at 78, with 40.5cm stays, the 58.7cm front center is way too short (looking at the medium frame). Common problem throughout the industry, so I guess you could say that at least it’s no worse than any one else…

I was just saying that the geo might work better for me. I have a hard time finding a machine with a HT short enough (short legs, long torso, longish arms), so I end up riding a bike that is really too small.

I did end up looking at the rest of the numbers afterwards. What jumped out was that the rear centre was long, at 40.5 cm.

Paging a webdesigner to Chris Boardman’s new venture … please … anyone with some design sense … help, customers currently drowning in horrible color scheme

forget the color scheme … yet another website that is 100% inaccessible without Flash, which still does not exist for any 64-bit operating system. sigh.

Most definitely not. Our manufacturer doesn’t take on new customers, luckily. Just because a design steals some cues from other frames, doesn’t mean it has the same manufacturer - that’s just par for the course in the bike industry. I would think the manufacturer is probably Dynamix, but I don’t know that for a fact.

Just because a design steals some cues from other frames,

ah, well, it was just speculation on my part.

and you know they say: imitation is the highest form of flattery

and cervelo has one heck of a lot of imitators …

At the price, why would someone want this instead of a Walser or a Parlee?
