New 2023 Trek Madone

Anyone else see this? Pretty interesting.

Unless they are justify this with some hard numbers, i don’t like it

But then again, i thought the epitome of the aero Madone was the first iteration. Aero, decently light, and ability to accommodate 30 mm tires.

My guess is the complication of the first two iterations of the iso-speed decoupler are simplified with the new frame. The diamond shaped opening and seatpost on the lever arm allow for vertical compliance and probably some aero improvements.

Honestly I think most of the benefits of the old system were made obsolete with the move to wider tires.

I ride mine with GP5000 in 32’s for gravel racing (not courses like Unbound). My buddy has run 35’s which I won’t do due to clearance. The ultimate gravel machine. Hope new one takes a 35 with a bit of clearance…lol

yeah, i took the seat tube thing to be about compliance rather than aero - removing need for complex/heavy isospeed mechanical compliance by instead using complex structural carbon.
the odd thing is this design requires high seat stays when everyone else has dropped them for a combination of aero and compliance benefits

it does seem to be stretching the double-diamond frame restrictions - a tiny bit of beam bike design in there!

If that frame/fork take 35mm width-as-measured, that’s a winner in my book. Only other request I’d make is the H1 Trek geometry.
I personally like the blownout hole in the rear and the mini-beam looks like it could be awesome for soaking up bumps.

In 10 years, as they gradually make the notched cutout bigger and bigger:

.

I keep imaging the seat post slipping and the part that sticks up will poke me in the butt lol
