I’m actually surprised I have not seen more noise about Trek’s only tri-bike offering.
My LBS just gave me a great opportunity to get a new speed concept…so I thought I couldn’t pass it up. Size 56…low far stem…and it came out weighing 21 lbs…race ready. This was with sram 1X…and bontrager Aeolus 7 tubulars(which are not heavy). I was pretty disappointed…to say the least.
I moved my stuff back over to my my 2015 P3…and am back down to 18.5 lbs…race ready…
Guess I just need to start saving for the P5 disc…
Just my opinion, the R&D required to develop a disc brake bike right now has zero ROI for trek. The current SC is best in class and very hard to make any faster. It’s been rumored they tried to make a faster bike (not sure if it was disc brakes) but the bike was heavier and slower. The project got scraped from what I understand. All of this combined with the fact that triathlon contributes to probably less than 5% of their revenue, a new SC disc brake bike doesn’t move the needle for trek. If anything, it’s probably bad business to spend the R&D, mfg, etc right now. I think we will eventually see one but it’s low on the priority list for them. My guess is that you won’t see it until next years tdf/kona at the earliest or even the following year.
Agreed. If they were going to make a new bike to compete with the other newer ‘super bikes’ it would have already happened. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is more than 2 years before we see anything new from trek for tri bikes.
I had a gen 1 SC9. Sold it after a few years and got a Felt IA. In hindsight, I should have just gotten a new Trek, they are fantastic bikes the way they are.

I can see this argument - especially when the other manufacturers are busy making their bikes slower. The thing I don’t get is the price. It’s an old bike that has long paid off its development cost. If you pursue the “wait” strategy I would think you price it more reasonably.

Find me a faster frame you can buy for less than $3200 USD brand new. The SC is one of the best buy’s out there IMO.
In your opinion, I’m 5’7 with a 29†inseam. What size frame should I opt for?
Thanks
Height and inseam are a recipe for making a $5k mistake. Find your optimum pad x and pad y, then use the SC fit guide to find your size and appropriate stem.

Don’t get me wrong. I totally agree! In my opinion the SC has been the top bike for a while, and many (but not all) of the other top bikes have actually gotten worse in the last year - less aero, heavier, harder to work on and maintain, harder to travel with, etc. But, I don’t think most consumers (including many on this board) agree with that assessment. I think they want “latest and greatest” and they are not very good at telling greatest, so they go for latest instead.
Weight is not my key indicator…but 2.5 lbs is not just a little difference…
And my P3 is set up with an alpha one up front…it is clean…I don’t believe it’s going to slow me down too much…
In triathlon or even TT’s, 2.5 lbs is a wash.
I don’t necessarily want to argue that point…but that is a 15% difference in weight from my other build…I bet that is a larger percentage than the aero difference of these 2 setups specifically…
I am not a professional…or even a professional AG…so I just don’t believe I would see any huge difference switching to the SC…other than adding the weight…
If they threw years and millions of dollars into R&D to develop a faster SC and failed, then they need to hire better engineers (half pink). In any case I’ll wait for the disc version!
