Has anybody had a chance to ride the new Giant tri bikes?
I’m finally moving up to a “real” tri bike, after years on my Ebay-purchased Motobecane. I’m considering the Giant Trinity 1 principally because of its price, and secondly to support my local bike shop.
I know it’s not a Felt or a Cervelo or a Kuota, but it looks like a good mount with lots of goodies and a nice stiff aero frame.
Can’t speak to the '09 but my '07 A0 Trinity Alliance (Alu/Carbon) is very stiff…haven’t been able to flex the frame…even at 900 watts on the trainer. If it fits you you’ll never regret buying it…you can also find it in transition amongst the sea of Cervelos, etc.
the Giant website has a few errors. It refers to the “Trinity” frame as a composite frame, even though it’s clearly an all-aluminum frame (according to the various descriptions, and the tube shapes and appearance). Also, the derailleurs on the Trinity 2 are listed as Tiagra, but the picture clearly shows Sora front and rear derailleurs!
Both bikes look really nice, though. Great price point on the Trinity Alliance 1, and both Trinity models have a good price (though the Sora shifting on the 2 leaves something to be desired). Not to mention the sweet 42mm aero wheels that come on all of their tri bikes!!
As a thoroughly satisfied rider of the 08 Giant Trinity Alliance (bought A2, upgraded most of the components), I would imagine that the 09 Trinity and Trinity Alliance will be nice bikes as well. I even like the paint schemes!
