OK, here are the rules, very similar to the “If you and a friend are confronted by a bear in the woods what do you do” protocol. Always swim with a companion and make sure they swim a bit slower than you. Might not have helped in this situation but 'ya cover the odds. BTY, we do a lot of tri’s on the same beach; a very nice site.
Holy Crap!!!
DANG!!! I’m going to Florida for a week to move a boat. Thought I might do a few swims in the ICW. Not now!!!
No alligators in the ICW. They don’t do the whole saltwater thing.
Lots of sharks though ![]()
.
remember
you are going to die
all of us, all you, are going to die
death by alligator is a pretty epic way to go
.
That really sucks for the swimmer. I hope they’re ok. Why exactly do they need to trap and kill the alligator? I never get it when they do shit like this.
He gets away? In a film you’d call bs. I guess it was “only” 8 feet, but I mean, come on…
What don’t you understand about man’s irrational response to a natural occurrence? Of course they should kill it, what in the hell was an alligator doing in a lake to begin with, it doesn’t belong there. We have to teach these animals a lesson, when humans enter their environment the animals need to concede. After all we are humans, we are the far more intelligent creature, we can do know wrong. I bet a whale actually ran into that oil rig in the gulf, causing it to spew bazillions of gallons of oil into the sea. *
*please note the sarcasm

Looks as if someone forgot to tell the gators they don’t do salt water. I’ve worked in between both the Banana and the Indian Rivers (ICW"S) for 28 years and they can be seen cruising around on any day.
Local news sez he was training for an IM.
And a quote from a host of open water swims in a nearby lake: “You enter the food chain”

No, but there are Bull Sharks! You should be fine as long as you don’t land on one when you jump off the boat/ dock like that old guy did a few years ago.

How brackish is that water? Gators don’t like saltwater. Seriously. I’ll see one in some salty water on rare occassion in some weird conditions, but not with regularity.
This stuff always gets blown out of proportion. This guy probably swam up on a sleeping alligator.
Well the gator was not sleep walking when it attacked him
Does Sidi make gator cycling shoes. I was thinking they could use baby gator heads as the ratchet tightner and the teeth well as teeth for the ratchet.

I knew it! My boats is in Indian Town and we will be in that very vacinity. Are you sure that they are gators and not crocs that kids threw down the storm water drain when they got too big. You won’t seem my young a$$ in them waters.
