I’m not looking for recommendations per se, I’m just kind of a shoe geek and I’m curious what others like and why. What shoe gives you the best combination of comfort, cushioning, speed and weight for open marathons?
Just ran Cali International last month in the Asics LyteRacer RS4 and LOOOOVED them. I would wear that in a 13.1, probably something a smidge lighter for much shorter races. Another shoe I love is the Adidas Adios, great shoe.
recently ran a good half on saucony kinvaras. they felt great, and would probably be good up to a marathon (especially for a faster, lighter runner). i like that they’re very minimal drop, and good forefoot cushioning. they also fit my wide forefoot nicely.
I tried lots in the last two years, the kswiss kona is my favorite, kswiss blade second. For me , you feel like running when you put them on, and they combine lightweight, cushioned, stable, responsive and durable ride. For relaxed longer runs I like the saucony ride. These are slightly more cushioned and less responsive but they help you cruize and not run too fast. They still have a really good feel
i like both of these shoes. i’ve run at least one marathon in the Nimbus, and recently switched from running Nimbus to running Glycerins. If someone offered me an entry for a marathon next month and I was just trying to fininsh, I’d go with the Glycerins. If I was in decent shape and going for a faster time, I’d probably go with a little less shoe though. the last time i ran a marathon in a (for me) decent time I was wearing Brooks Launches, and I’d do that again.
other past models i’ve liked included Mizuno Wave Riders and Nike Pegasus, I’ve run marathons in older models of both of those but then they changed them and I didn’t like them anymore.
