Netflix’s Fear Street horror movie trilogy

I liked it. Campy, not the greatest acting, purposely derivative, and chock full with horror movie tropes but done in a way that the filmmakers are in on the joke (like Scream did). Based off RL Stine’s book series of the same name but done very R rated.

I won’t go into Slowguy movie review territory. The three movies are Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. The number represents the year the movie is set and the movies are intertwined. It tells the story of the town of Shadyside and why every so often one of the seemingly normal people that live there go off on a serial killer crime spree. So Shadyside is kind of a shithole. Juxtaposed with the rival neighboring town of Sunnyvale that does everything well and is rich and prosperous.

The 1978 movie is the best one. Teenagers at summer camp so you get the whole Friday the 13th vibe and all that.

Not meant for younger kids like most of RL Stine’s stuff. Lots of language and the violence is bloody and graphic.

The fourth movie hit Netflix today. Set in 1988 at Shadyside’s high school prom.
