So I bought neoprene socks (and cap) in preparation for IMMT 70.3 and tested them out. I wore the socks over the leg portion of the suit and it felt like a lot of water got in there. Should I kind of roll the leg part of the wetsuit over the socks to minimize water leaking in? Whats the proper way to wear the socks?
Socks first, then put on the wetsuit. Othersise, the socks catch water, as you have experienced.
b.) Illegal Equipment:
(i) Athletes must not use: • Artificial propulsion devices; • Flotation devices; • Gloves or socks (including but not limited to compression socks); • Wetsuits with thickness exceeding 5mm; • Wetsuit bottoms only; • Wetsuits when they are forbidden because of the water temperature; • Non certified swimsuits and wetsuits. • Clothing covering arms from shoulders to hands and clothing covering legs from knees to toes in a non-wetsuit swim. • A second swimsuit, unless worn for the entire race.
Ask if socks will be allowed…
Caps and socks are allowed if the water temp is below 65 degrees per Ironman rules.

Great, thanks. Btw, I used to have an issue exhaling in cold water. I used ear plugs and the neoprene cap and a miracle happened. Absolutely no issue at water temps just below 60. Amazing.
Thank you for the obvious addition. Of course, the RD has to approve the super-cold water apparel.
Having said that, I vote with my wallet against races that think it’s fun to suffer in cold water

And the rules state the 65 degree rule.
