I am working on building up a bike for a guy who is new to cycling. He has been through a lot lately with his fiance’ being in a car accident in February suffering severe head trauma that has left her in a semi-vegetative state. He’s been by her side daily believing that she will regain consiousness. It has really been amazing to watch this 20 year old kid deal with this. They were to be married this month.
He has told me several times how he would like to get a decent bike to ride. I have a Giant TCR1 frame/fork that I am going to repaint for him with a custom paint job of his choice. I also have a set of Vuelta Airline wheels with tires, some old shimano 600 cranks, a 105 front derailleur (might have a shimano 600 also). I do have an old set of sora shifter/brake levers but am unsure how many speeds or if they work. I do have a couple 9spd cassettes laying around I could put on it if I can get some 9spd shifters.
So I am looking for:
handlebars (42cm)
threaded stem
Shifter/brake levers
Brake Calipers
Rear Derailleur
If you have any parts you would like to donate please let me know.
I have some Deda semi-anatomic bars in 42cm, a couple different threaded stems (10/11cm, assuming you’re looking for 1" steerer), and an assortment of calipers in good shape (either Shimano or Campy dual-pivot, depending on the brake/shift levers if you need the QR on the caliper or not, or some even older single-pivot Dia-Compes which probably offer a bit more reach/clearance). Lemme know what you think and we can figure out shipping.
Thank you so much for wanting to help out with this project. I have had offers of Stems and bars so should be good there, I am planning to stick to Shimano components for the drivetrain so probably shimano brake calipers would work best. My zip is 68510 if that helps figure shipping.
Do you need a cables? I don’t have them at home to send but wouldn’t mind picking some up and sending a package your way or calling a shop that’s local to you and paying for it by phone if you were able to pick up there. I also might be able to come up with a Shimano 9 speed rear derailleur if you still need one. I know I don’t have one, but a friend stripped 9 speed off of his bike recently and may have had and extra derailleur; I’ll double check with him after I’m out of work later tonight. Just let me know and if there’s a shop that’s convenient to you please let me know the name/location of it and I’ll maybe check the option of buying it and having them hold it for you.
