For various reasons, I have a few wheels hanging on the bike rack in my garage. They are old and/or busted wheels and are no longer useable. I could throw them in the trash, but I would like to find some creative ways of reusing them. Since I’m an engineer and have the creativity of a rock, what do you suggest that I do with them?
Here’s something that might be sort of cool, or maybe not. You can use a rim to make a disc wheel table for a lamp or something. Obviously you’d need to make it flat or your lamp would go slidding off. Just get some plywood for the disc, paint it black and go to e-bay to get some fake Zipp stickers.
That’s about the best I can come up with off the top of my head on a Monday.
I’ve seen a pot rack made out of an old wheel, also some end tables and stools made from old bicycle parts including wheels. Let me see if I can find a link to the pot rack.
Look here for some ideas:
Couldn’t find the pot rack, but here’s a hanging light:

i too saw a pot rack somewhere, or at least a picture of one. it rotated, which was the cool part. and useful.
Have you got a rear that is useless for road riding but would work on a trainer? I’ll take it
I had a friend that used an old set of wheels to make a bird bath. For the bath itself, he removed 1 side of the spokes, then cut the hub in half in effect making a shallow dish. He then cut some scrap tin to fill in the dish portion using the remaining spokes as support. He welded the tin to hub making a seal, then tack welded it to the outer rim. He then made a crude wind mill out of the front wheel using a fork as support and some pieces of plastic as wind vanes. Somehow he rigged a small pump up to the wind mill (I was not sure how he did this), and then ran some tubing up into the rear wheel hub. When there was a decent wind, the front wheel wind mill provided a little bubbling fountain for the birds. His cats really liked the foutain too.
I know, my friend has WAY too much time on his hands.
