Need some advice

I thought I was signed up for Musselman this wkd and looked for an email confirmation and also checked the active.com website for my registration. After not finding them (I neglected to check my cc statements) I hurriedly signed up for the nirvana package to get a spot as the general entries were sold out. This is the only IM branded race I do anymore and my A race for the year so not racing wasn’t an option.

Of course shortly after I shelled out about 800 dollars I found an email confirming that I had in fact already signed up back in April. Not sure how I missed this.

I emailed Ironman but I know I’m well past the transfer date and any shot at a refund. I fully admit this was my mistake but clearly I’m not going to do the race twice with a different bib. I’m also surprised that I was even able to enter the race again as I had to enter my USAT number again. I would think that would raise a red flag and alert me that I already have an entry to the race. Clearly I’m giving IM too much credit.

Anyway my question is do I try to do a back charge on my cc to try and get my money back for one of the entries? I’ve heard others have done this with success for other instances but a consequence is that I may be blackballed from future Ironman races. Thanks in advance for any help.

I’d wait to hear back from the race directly before doing a chargeback. They might refund you your original entry and keep the extra money from your Nirvana entry. If they are being dicks about it then maybe go the charge back route.

Charge back feels like a bit much. They didn’t do anything wrong. Possibly their system should have prevented you registering twice but signing up twice is on you.

As the others said, don’t do a chargeback. Fight for the refund later and for now enjoy the race weekend. Beautiful part of NYS.
