Need Running Tights Recommendations Please

I am looking for new running tights to wear in cool/cold weather. My current ones are very old and finally falling apart. I don’t want any zippers, just plain ‘spandex’ tights to wear.
Thanks for the recommendations,
John

Do they have to be ‘spandex’? If not, you can’t go wrong with the DeSoto fleece tights. They keep me so warm I can only wear them below 35 deg. and have to take em off asap when I’m done.i have 3 pair I’ve been using for 10+ years. My wife doesn’t run but wears hers around to stay “toasty”.

Good luck out there

I have a pair of Pearl Izumi that have been amazing for 10 or so years. I wear them running and riding. They are the perfect combination of light, warm and don’t cause me to overheat.

I am not sure if they still make them.

I would suggest trying some from amazon where you might even be able to get 2 pairs for $25 or so. I bought compression tights and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them as running tights.

I recently got these and I like 'em.

Zippers at the ankles. Waist is true to size but inseam was long (which isn’t a problem for me).

I prefer the spandex type if only to not be as warm as the fleece tights. I do love the De Soto fleece tights for really cold weather. I also like to use the spandex tights for biking over bibs.
If Emilio made the Femme tights for men, I would be all over it! https://www.desotosport.com/collections/cold-climate/products/femme-run-tight

Thanks, I will go hunting on Amazon for some off brands.

Ten Thousand look pretty good.

I have some Hind spandex ones with a brushed fleece lining. They’re warm, but not down below 20 warm. They’ve held up well, but I’m not sure if they still have them.

How is the fit on those? According to their size chart I’d be a small based on waist, but L or XL based on height and weight.

CW-X tights are really nice. Expensive but very nice.

Running tights are something that it’s actually well worth it to not cheap out on. You don’t have to get the highest priced one, but if you get cheapies from Amazon, many of them will have insufficient insulation to run in colder temps, particularly if you’re about freezing temps. The upside is that a good pair of running tights lasts like forever, and you can even wear them over bike shorts or trishorts in cold cycling weather with no problem. (I think some brands like Assos even sell no-chamois bibs so people can essentially use their favorite shorts and just layer on top.)

The cheapies from Amazon can actually have a role still though, in lightly cool weather where you just barely might want a thin layer over your legs. But in most of these cases, shorts would have been fine.

Craft makes various levels of insulated running and mountaineering tights for what I think is a fair price ($75-$130 depending on the type).

I wear these with no issue to about -15 celsius. Have worked well.

I wear a medium in just about everything (5’10 @175). I bought these in mediums and they fit exactly the way they should on the waist, hips, and thighs. The legs were a little long but it really isn’t a problem.

Gore-wear R5 tights are really nice. They are snug, have wind proof panels along the front of the thigh and waist/crotch area. Not cheap but very nice.

The spandex options mentioned are solid choices…since moving to a cold winter climate, I love the Desoto fleece tights. Certainly are warm (and comfortable!), but I guess I have come to love the warmth in my old age and use them well into the spring.

100%. I’ve been a fan of PI for 20 years now, but the only downside is that I find they fit small. If you’re a North American Large then order XL. Not great for the ego, but good for the pocketbook because their stuff lasts forever.
