Need help - installing braze on derailleur issues

Hopefully I am in the right forum…

I am building my own mercury trident II frame up and need to install my FD. I got ultegra 6700 braze on and I thought that it should be easier than the clamp on install on my road bike…I think I was wrong…

Looks like the screws of the braze bracket are not allowing me to “turn” the FD so the cage is aligned with chain ring, these hex screws holding the braze frame are “in the way” and I am not sure if I am missing something basic. Right now the cage of the FD is pointing too much outward… should I use force here to bend the FD cage (I would not think so)?

Appreciate any hints you may have.

Can you take a picture of your derailleur on the bike so we can see what hardware you have installed? I know with my SRAM FD’s there is usually a curved “washer” piece that allows me to rotate the derailleur.

I found a picture from the Ultegra 6700 series installation manual that shows the curved “washer” I’m talking about. I circled it in red. Do you have this piece installed? It sounds like you may be missing it.

You should not.

Maybe the rocket scientists that put your frame together used some sub-optimal screws to fix your braze-on FD mount? If yes, replace the screws with some metric buttonhead stainless screws like these. That’ll probably solve the problem. Or, if you already have screws like these, remove the washers. I did the same for a similar TT frame and it solved our issues.

I was thinking the same thanks! The screws they used to hold the bracket protrude significantly out and essentially block me from adjusting the derailleur.

I am going to look around and see if I have any of these or similar screws… cheers!
