I am flying to San Digeo Friday, and staying at a Residence Inn that “borders the communities of Scripps Poway, Carmel Mountain Ranch and Rancho Bernardo just North of San Diego”. I need a bike for a 2 hour ride Saturday morning. A 53 cm road bike would be perfect. Any recommendations, or somebody training that wants to do a swim/bike brick with me?
Hello Willrace4food and All,
Nytro bike shop has lots of Cervelos for rent and you can go from there North or South on PCH for a nice ride.
Nytro is about 25 minutes by car from Rancho Bernardo.
Cheers,
Neal
not exactly close to you, by Nytro rents bikes (www.nytro.com), P2SL’s and Soloist Teams by the day.
You could drive to Encinitas, go for a swim at Moonlight Beach (go early before the crowds arrive, I was there on Sunday and it was packed), get your bike at Nytro and then head for a nice ride up and down the coast from there.
Thanks guys for the idea. Riding the PCH sound interesting. Doesn’t it get crowded with cars though? Is there a bike lane?
PCH on a Saturday morning will be crawling with cyclists. There is a bike lane. There is a fair amount of traffic with all the beach-goers, but you can’t beat the scenery. If you ride all the way to Camp Pendleton (you will need an ID to get on base), you will get some clear roads.
What kind of ID would I need to ride on the base? I am assuming it would be a military one. That would be funny, I have an old ID in Hebrew from the Israel Defense Forces, think they would accept it?
plain ol’ state-issued Driver license needed to get on base. Military ID is not needed.
Cool. DL will do then.
