Will be headed to Miami for work and am trying to wind a nice pool for outdoor (if possible) swimming but at least an indoor pool. Will be on the west side near the Doral Country Club. Thanks.
miami isnt far from fort lauderdale…and the hall of fame pool is so worth the drive. there are two 50 meter outdoor pools, as well as an enormous diving well with platform. some of the greatest meets have been there…right across from fort lauderdale beach on A1A. hope this helps:)
that’s where the U Maine team goes for winter break training camp I think.
Miami is not GEOGRAPHICALLY far from FTL… but driving from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale… no way.
close to Doral you can swim at Ballys at 12th st and 84th ave.
you can try to swim at FIU that is really close to Doral
UM not so close but is a 50m pool
Community Center in Key Biscaye, we have Master Swimming , Tue and Thu from 6:45 / 7:45
than you have Ocean, thats is much better than Pool!!! Go to Hobbie Beach in Key Biscayne, you will find some triathletes swimming there.
the UM pool is rarely set up for long-course and, I am pretty sure, is not open to the public. although not that long ago anyone could jsut walk in if they looked like they ‘belonged’ there.
I believe the Ft. Lauderdale pool opens up around 5 AM or so. Miami to Ft. Lauderdale shouldn’t take much longer than 40 minutes at 4:30 AM. I did that drive every day for a week when I was in Miami on vacation… well worth the drive.
We used to go to Hall of Fame for Christmas break training too. They’ve got a great location and set up- four different pools if you count the little lessons pool stashed back to the south of the diving well, and the open water races we’d do there finished up right on the beach that’s less than a block to the east.

If you’re a registered masters swimmer, you can train with their masters team for an additional fee.
I couldnt agree with you more… from Doral to Ft Lauderdale A1A… yo’ll be there right before thanksgiving.
LA fitness… there are 2 relatively close to you one right in Doral and another one 8th street and 140 something which is west also and probably not super far from you, they all have nice indoor 25 yard pools. I have a bunch of 2 week trial membership cards but you might have to seat down with one of their sales people before
Peace
I am almost sure you cannot swim at FIU… UM for sure is not open to the public. MDCC in 104th street has public access at certain times for like $2
Peace
Yes, but then you have to come back… with traffic on I95 or 595 or the turnpike… unless you stay there until after 11 AM…I’ll rather get tortured by the chinese
Peace
anyone know which pool is close to the miami marathon? Courtyard Marriott Downtown HQ Hotel, 200 SE 2nd Avenue?? Thanks.
Hi,
Are you going to have a car while in Miami?
If so, you can try SwimGym/Bodyzen masters. They have a program in Key Biscayne close to the entrance to the key at the Rowing Club. From downtown shouldnt be more than 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. They have AM and PM sessions most days. Let me know if these will work for you and I can help you get details.
There are really not that many pools close by other than hotels and condos. The Jose Marti pool in calle 8 has weird hours, no lane dividers and not great reviews. I think you best bet will be Key Biscayne.
Peace
Thank you. I will be staying downtown at the Continental Bayside Downtown, 146 Biscayne Blvd.Miami. no car. I was hoping to run/cab it.
not exactly where you are but close to the route of the marathon there is a 25 yd outdoor pool in Miami Beach in Flamingo park. it’s free to residents and i think $6 for non-residents. always set up with at least 4 lanes for lap swimming
Cabs in miami are expensive and not easy to flag on the street, but I dont know how much were you willing to pay each way. As for running, how many miles were you thinking of running to/from pool? The flamingo pool will be as far or more than the one in Key Biscayne I think. What you can do to get to key biscayne from downtown if you want to run is take the metromover (free) to the metrorail station, then take the metro to Vizcaya ($1.50) which takes like 5 minutes and then run over to the pool which is a little over 3 miles from there.
Unfortunately, Miami is not carless friendly so it will be a mission to get anywhere from dowtown and the metro doesnt go to many places, which is stupid. Let me know if you need any directions I work right next to your hotel. Also how many days are you planning on swimming while here?
Peace
