NB Fuelcell Rebel equivalent

My much beloved Fuelcell rebels have split horribly along the big toe on both feet. I need to replace them but can’t stretch to £120 for new shoes at the minute (I also need to replace a pair of trail shoes and would like a new carbon fork for the mtb!)

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative which feels and runs in a similar way?

Thanks,

Matt

The Rebel V1&2 are notorious for the upper splitting where you mention.
The Rebel V3 just hit the market and NB states they fixed the issue.
I don’t know what to tell you about the price issue - that’s just what shoes cost now. $130 is as cheap as it gets for decent shoes. You may be able to find a clearance model V2 but they will eventually split as well.

The answer your question - no other shoe brand has foam like Fuelcell. I’m not a fan of it because it’s so soft. You can try out the Nike Zoomx Invincibles as those were also too squishy for me. (very expensive)
Endorphin speeds are my go to tempo shoe, in place of the Rebel.

Hoka Mach 4 has a very similar feel (but less soft) and with version 5 coming out maybe you will be able to find it on sale.

Hit me up if you wear a 10.5 and need a cheap alternative (have an extra pair of Nike ZoomX Infinity I don’t use)
.

Yeah I know shoes are pricey was just hoping to find a cheaper replacement. The V3 is £20 less than getting one of the remaining pairs of V2, which is positive.

I’ll have a look at the other suggestions on the thread as well and see what I can get along with.

I did notice that New Balance have brought out an off road show with Fuel Cell, which seems like it would be incredibly squishy and prone to rolling with the foam.
