National Training Center in Clermont

Has anybody been down to the NTC in Clermont. I was just down there and because I was an athlete they wanted to charge me $55 a week to train there. I saw their price sheet and they have a $75 a month category too, but they refused to let me buy that because I was an athlete. Nowhere on the sheet did it say athlete pricing is different than non-athlete pricing.
$55 a week is $220 for a month! Their regular price for somebody with a 6 month or year membership is $48 a month and I am sure that the old people who come down from the north are paying that price. Seems pretty unfair that they can publish a $75 rate and then make only athletes pay $55 a week.

Overall its a great facility and lots of pros now live there, Sara McLarty, Sarah Haskins, Jarrod Shoemaker, Alicia Kaye are all based in Clermont. Too bad they call themselves the National Training Center and then charge pros more to train than “normal people.”

im training in clermont right now. im a college student so i think i got a discount but i think there may have been miscommunication with you and NTC. im paying $60 for the month. id try calling again to clarify. were you getting additional services?

i retract my last post. i just went to the ntc with a russian athlete who just got here and they said they changed the rates on January 1st. $55 a week! thats ridiculous

Wow, I think I paid $20 for a week last year. But I think I did pool only. Sara McLarty’s master class is awesome!

So $55 a week for 4 weeks is: $220 a month - so if you train there for 3 months its $660. that seems expensive since i see their member rates are $48 a month minimum 6 month commitment which is $288.
Is there any other place that charges athletes more to train? Or has a $220 a month membership? just wondering.

i have no idea what their deal is. i got lucky by getting a month membership just before the new year. Theres a YMCA pretty close that is likely cheaper. I dont get how they can charge more for “athletes”. doesnt using the NTC include being some type of athlete…?
if you just wanna swim i believe you can join Sara’s masters team for 60 a month without joining the NTC.

That must be the all inclusive with testing and coaching pricing.

That is so neat that you get to train in Clermont with all those ITU pros. Have you ever spoke to Jarrod Shoemaker? I am one of his biggest fans. I met him one time at a non itu race. He was super cool and super talented.

Anyway, sorry about the facility issues.

How does that works? Hi I would like a membership… Are you an athlete? Yes …::oh ? raise the price? Something is missing?
I live in Orlando and train with many triathletes in Clermont that use the NTC. I have never heard them complain of an upcharge. Maybe they are not athletes? Go back and find a new person and tell them you’re a lazy ass and get the non-athlete price. Fixed

Check out these pictures I found of 2012 Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker of Clermont. Awesome. Some of these might even be in Clermont. I hope to visit there and train there. Fwiw, I met Jarrod two years back and the Pro loves Clermont and the NTC; so take this thread for what its worth.

Are you for real?

Bro that’s pretty weird.

Also, he’s not a 2012 Olympian yet. USA has 4 entries at our Olympic Trials event (don’t get me started on that) and he’s one of them, but USA only has 2 slots in the Olympics so it will come down to a race between Shoemaker, Chrabot, Huerta and Fretta/Kemper for those 2 slots.

That first picture you posted where Jarrod is on the left next to Kaleb is from Clermont last year (I was there). It was a pretty cool race. Unfortunately Greg Rouault edged out Shoemaker at the line, but Jarrod got his due at Myrtle Beach last year and took home the top spot.

I have a theory it’s Jarrod. haha.

And you forget to mention he won myrtle after a hk crash out.

I have a theory it’s Jarrod. haha.
Interesting theory, but what say you to the part where he calls himself a 2012 Olympian? I don’t think shoemaker would have be so arrogant as to call himself a 2012 Olympian given the US’s present qualifying situation…

You guys are creeping me out. I am just a fan. Anyone else traveling to San Diego to watch next weekend?

Here are some pictures I found of Jarrod:

And you’re the creepy one.

I live in Clermont and am an NTC member. Never heard of an upcharge for “athletes”. What qualifies one as an athlete? Their run time? Go back and ask for a monthly membership. If they ask you if you are an athlete, look at them cross eyed and ask what that means. Say no, that you live are living here (even if it is for a month, it is true) and you’d just like a monthly membership, please.

Their reputation depends on athletes for god’s sake, I can’t imagine why they would tarnish their name with such a shortsighted move. If you are not successful, post back and maybe the President of SL Hospital will get introduced to ST and see all the bad PR they are getting over having variable rates based on subjective judgements.

I just called and it’s $48/mo with $50 initiation, for a year membership

Sounds like you’re just looking at the short term rate, which is higher at pretty much any gym. My facility here in Ohio charges at least $10/day for a temporary membership (so $70/wk), and they don’t like you using the temp membership more than a couple times. Our gym isn’t as nice as NTC either. So $55/wk, while high in theory, is not really abnormal. Most nicer facilities around here seem to charge ~$50/mo, but way more for temp membership
