So, I’m looking to take advantage of Nashbar’s 20% deal for orders over $50 today but I remember something about some credit card fraud that happened last year on their website. I’m still nervous about ordering but $230 for a pair of Sidi Genius 6.6’s is really enticing. Has anyone ordered from them recently without any issues? Thanks.
2 orders, one took forever (4+ weeks) to ship the other was quick
troubles < prices
.
my credit card number was stolen from their system. I don’t think I’ve ordered since, though not for that reason.

How did you find out? My credit card has been compromised twice recently…and I’ve ordered from Nashbar. But I never heard anything from them about it. Plus, I have 1000’s of non-Nashbar transactions that could have been the cause.
I’ve made more than a handful of purchases from Nashbar and always had good service. Also never heard anything about credit card data being stolen from them.
I’ve ordered from them a number of times. While the quality of their house brand can be hit or miss, I haven’t had any problems with their order process.
Anyone that accepts credit cards has a chance of being compromised (Look at TJ Maxx/Marshals - major retailers). After Nashbar’s issues, I’m sure they had to go through some type of PCI audit. I was notified BY Nashbar that they had an attack and CC numbers were stolen, but mine was fine. I called my CC company and they had a new one out a week later.

same thing happened to me, wachovia alerted me asap and sent me a new card.
I get the feeling it was a one time thing. Well I found out long before they did as I noticed the stuff and ordered new cards and what not. They sent me a letter explaining the situation about 2 months later and offered me a one time 30% off.
Have ordered from them plenty and not a single problem. Remember this, that waiter you gave your credit card to last Saturday night to pay your tab? Yeah, he had way more than enough time and information to rip you off. Not making light of it, but we are vulnerable no matter how hard you try to avoid getting ripped off, all you can do is check your accounts daily.
I had my card compromised recently, too. Not at Nasbar but either TriSports or Excel Cycling. Thank goodness for fraud protection!
I have only had my credit card compromised once. I buy a lot of stuff online. Never that particular who I purchase from.
The one time my card was stolen was from a gas station is Tenn. We were driving back from Florida. I have heard what they do is have their phone camera next to the register and take a picture of the card. I don’t know if me or my wife paid for the candy in the store. I usually pay at the pump.
After the experience I see why more and more places have gone to you never handing the card to the check out person. Instead you swipe yourself. Obviously this is a recurring problem of workers stealing credit card numbers.
The idiot that did was very easy to track down. I gave the credit card company his address by just tracking down his purchases. Not sure what they did to him. I am curious. Wonder if you go to jail as you should. He did charge over $5,000 of stuff. Also pretty sure he was only worker at the store at the time. How stupid could you be?
i have ordered (and occassionally returned) items from them for years and never had a problem with shipping, processing or credit card stuff

The Nashbar problem was over a year ago - they sent letters to the affected customers (breakin was Dec 08, they confirmed it May 09). I got a letter, and the timeframe did fit with some (minor, and promptly detected) fraud we experienced. My guess is they’re being more careful now so I wouldn’t use this particular incident as the primary criteria for whether or not to order from them. I assume it’s common knowledge now that the same entity owns Performance and Nashbar.

In my case, the CC company canceled the charges and sent me a new card as usual.
But, the sad part is that some of the charges were through PayPal and the CC company and PayPal both had a name and shipping addresses for the bogus purchases. Picturing a SWAT raid on the address, I asked what the next step for them was. They basically said that they do nothing…It’s just a cost of business. Law enforcement apparently can’t be bothered.
