All Fire, EMS, Police, Military and Corrections looks like a First Responder Challenge (division) is a go for the N.J. State triathlon. P.M. me or email me at manners_@hotmail.com if you are interested and I will get you details. It is a beautiful place to race with a calm lake, fast bike and partially shaded run. We will have a Sprint F.R. division and Olympic F.R. division. The sprint is on Saturday and olympic on Sunday.
Powers that be are trying to put on a First Responder’s tri series using Chicago, New York and maybe the DC race. I’m not certain on DC or whether it was another race. One of the guys in our Chicago office is one of the folks trying to pull it together.
I have done the NYC tri First Responders race it is a fun race. Exspensive but fun. One of the great thing about the N.J. State tri is if you are traveling the hotels and eats are cheaper and it is easier to get around.
The sprint is on a Saturday and Oly on a Sunday, we can have a division in both races. Which is great if you have kids and both you and your spouse want to race. Each pick a day to race so the other can watch the kids.
If you wanted to take a extra day or two the Jersey shore, NYC , Six flags and Philly are all within a hour train ride or drive from the race area. Not to mention other great attractions.Really no need to leave Mercer County. Head up to Lambertville and New Hope after for some antiqueing and Zagat rated eats.
Holy shit I am starting to sound like a travel agent. Did I say Zagat ?
CGI has been great in getting this started and who knows they have A tri in Maryland and in the Pocono’s (black bear) might be able to get a series there. larry and his wife are very receptive to new ideas and they are triathletes who care about the sport to boot.
I have to say that I have no affiliation with them other then triing to get a First responder wave together. Well… I have also seen them at the races but I am not on their payroll ;o)
Bump for shift change
.
I heard it is a go in NYC, I’m just waiting for notification from NYC TRI. Are you going to race NYC ?

I would love to in theory but I can’t see spending all that time and money to travel for an olympic distance event.
It would be cool to do all the First Responder/LEO series races and be ranked or whatever they’re going to do. I think a bunch of our co-workers do the Chicago race.
The N.J. State tri is the week before Do a tune-up sprint. That what I am doing. I am most likely going to stay at one of the NYC firehouses the night before to keep cost down. Last year at NYC we had guy’s from Florida to maine competing. Even a two guy’s from England flew in for the race. This year I think they added 40 more spots to the F.R. wave. There were about 80 some F.R. last year participating.
I live in Texas though. I’d do it if I were within reasonable driving distance… but I’m not.
I have rules like Zombieland:
Rule #1 is the same as Zombieland: Cardio!
Rule #2: Traveling to the race has to take less time than actually doing the race. I don’t do most of the sprint and oly races in Houston because they’re on the other side of town and it breaks my rule. I can’t be bothered to get out of bed at 4 AM to drive 1 hour to do a sprint race that takes a little over 1 hour to complete and then drive another hour back home. HIM and IM distance events are excluded from Rule #2.
Understandable ;o)
