Please share your best bib/short and saddle combos.
I realize this is highly personal, but I’ve tried the following and am struggling to enjoy cycling…
-Adamo road and race
-Cobb Max
-Sugoi Evolution short
-Desoto Riviera Forza Tri
-Desoto one piece Tri suit with no pad
Have you tried desoto liftfoil? I haven’t tried them but have been looking into them myself, they are suppose to be fast in the water but have decent padding for the bike. Also can I ask what saddle you are using? I’ve had to switch saddles 3 times due to saddle sore.
Currently have the Adamo road on there. I get sore in the ‘creases.’ I never get raw or chaffed enough to break skin, but it hurts like heck while I’m riding.
I have a adamo road on my tri race bike. but I have done thousands of mile on my Terry saddle. not sure of the name but it has a hole in the center cut. but very comfortable.
I’d second the Terry Fly. I’d apply chamois cream and for cycling training I use a PI, Assos and Etxeondo bibs. How long have you been riding? Maybe you need to just “build your seat” if you know what I mean. I’d imagine that if you are fairly new to the sport you’d want to start with more padding on your saddles and bibs and then evolve into suits/bibs that have less padding and saddles that are firmer. Good luck.
7 years…IM CdA finisher, certified coach, and still an unhappy/uncomfortable cyclist.
And yes, I’m kind’ve a pansy; but dang if people don’t love to ride…while all I can think about is getting off the bike and running so my crotch stops burning.
Perhaps lowering your seat (ie bike fit) would help.
When you you start having pain mile 10 mile 40 mile 125?
Could be wrong, but after 6 or 7 hours nothing is really all that comfortable and you will have some chaffing. Are you using some kind of lube / chamois cream etc?
If your bike fit is correct, you can sit on a carbon seat and it should be okay. Seat width is also a factor. Gotta’ get correctly placed on those sit bones.
I hear ya. That seems to help, but I’m relatively low on the spectrum as it is. And yeah, I’m talking 50min on the trainer and I’m frustrated. No more IM for me…as riding 5-6 hours is def not pleasant. Sprints and Olympics from here on out/unless I get suckered into IM Tx for next year.
Do you get out of the saddle? Sometimes a new saddle just wont do it.
If I do a 2 hour indoor bike train ride, I will stay in aero largely for the first 30 minutes, then i will start to change it up where I am out of the saddle for 1-2 minutes at a time, or I sit up for 3-4 minutes etc then back in aero for 10 minutes. Little discomfort but I last.
Cant believe I am actually typing this, but here goes…
Do you keep yours undercarriage free of hair?
I am much more comfy when the male-winterbush is gone.
I shaved so much hair this past weekend that it looked like a sheep exploded in my bathroom.
