My S-bend project

I am just trying out this web picture hosting thing, the s-bend stuff is just secondary:

Dig the set-up.

I am ditching the HED 1-piece and going with this set up for 2006 for a new aero position project that requires more adjustability than the HED offers:

Whats with the 2 different brake levers? You gonna run a third lever on the aero bar?

yes, I run one now

I’d ditch the Vision clips and go with the Ovals… But that’s just me. And… Where can you get a bull-horn base bar with some drop these days? I’m running Mavics circa 1989… and I’ve got a spare set of OLD Profile bullhorns… Problem is that these were all made when every one was still running standard road brake levers, so I’ve had to cut down the Mavics to get the Cane Creek levers in there.

what are you going to do with your old bars?

ovals are not as clean, they mount too low, and according to Vision, offer less ‘suspension’ than Visions do … not sure if this is really and issue however

old bars … not sure … maybe will go on a pursuit bike

I’ve got a similar setup to what you are thinking about doing. Vision base bar and vision brakes, but I’ve gone with the Hed Clipons (found em cheap on e-bay and love em) and a look ergostem (to get low enough… my headtube is a massive 17cm, but I guess tha is what comes on a large Softride)

I agree with what you said about the Ovals mounting too low. I had the same experience with the profile sonic strykes (with homemade s-bends) and it just wasn’t right and that is the reason I picked up my Hed clip-ons.

Jeez, you’d think you people would get things right. Nobody has mentioned the god-awful exposed cable in KingK’s rocks yet.

Egad, man…have you no shame?

Actually, the fact that they mount low is the REASON I’m looking at them.

I’ve got the same base bar. Whic clip-ons are those? I’d love to get the s-bends.

Gary,

Do you find you use that 3rd lever often ? I been toying with the idea of this for a while but can’t work out if I’d need it. What lever is it you’ve used ? - thats a very neat job.

I use it enough to make it nice to have, I come out of the bars less often now, it does not stop the bike, merely scrubs a little speed.

Same system Discovery tested before the Tour.

a tech question: it looks like you have profile clamp hardware, but what are you using as a ‘riser’ between the clamp and the elbow supports? looks like some kind of black cylinder? alloy? where did you get it?

Gary

What type of stem is that (the adjustable one)

Can you send me a link? I am interested in something like that on my next bike.

Rotorcranks arrived this week - they are awesome - nice write up in the tri mag that was waiting in my mail box yesterday!
