My poor wife

This really sucks. A few months ago my wife sustained a groin injury while slipping in the wet while running. She is primarily a runner but I still feel that she over does it.

She could barely walk at first. Did stretching, ice, ultra-sound, low volt, massage and progress was really slow. The family physician gave some super anti-inflams that did nothing. Sent her to a traditional Chinese accupuncturist for a series of treatments. Helped a bit. Did x-rays which turned out negative. Went to an ortho who ordered a scan just to rule out the remote possibility of a hairline pelvis or femoral neck fracture. Fortunately this was also ruled out.

Just goes to show that sometimes time is the greatest healer. She’s jut started back riding without pain but feels discomfort when running any more than a mile or so.

This is a bummer since we feel that she likely won’t be doing a tri until the end of July this year. Originally we had scheduled in a full series of Oly/sprint tris and she had a real good shot at an AG series championship. She even bought a brand new P2K last fall for this.

It’s no excuse for me, but she is my motivation for the running part. Generally I only like biking and swimming. I’ve scaled down my running as a result and cut back on a few of the further distance away tris. Still intend to run several but tend to think we might be doing a far bit of scuba diving as a sustitute this summer also!

All well,it’s not like we get paid for this and there is always next year. Anyone else been there?

Yea, My wife is by cycling inspiration and partner. She suffer from severe allergies and from April to late June doesn’t go outside very much.

I wish I had a wife to train with (sigh.)

"Insert clever pick-up line here".

I used to think that too.

Add up how much all of your toys cost. Now go buy two of everything. And remember that any cool new toy that costs lots of coin costs triple, one for you, one for her, and the price of one spent on jewelry to convince her to let you buy your’s in the first place.

Be careful what you wish for.

A speedy recovery to your wife… hey and at least she is going to recover… and good luck next year

I’m in the same boat without all the ultra-sound, massage, accupucture, etc. I’m a long-time runner and this is suppose to be my first year of tris. I signed up for a half-marathon and 4 tris (including IMMoo). I heard a pop in my groin in early April while doing the leg press. I took 3 days off and was able to bike 3 hours on a Sat, then run 2 hours on Sun. A week later I played a game of basketball, even though I couldn’t move laterally. That lead to a pulled abdominal muscle that has forced me to miss the half-marathon and probably the first 2 tris.

Luckily I can swim and bike without any pain. So right now the plan is to take off from running through June, while focusing on my 2 weakest events. Hopefully, in the long run, I’ll be a better triathlete. At least that’s the positive spin I’m trying to put on it.

Good healing vibes to your wife.

Trust me - its a lot better the second time around.

I feel like I’m in the same boat as your wife. I ran my first half marathon in April and have been out with ITB ever since. And I was supposed to do my first tri of the season this weekend. And this tri was the entire reason that I did the half in the first place!!

The worst part is that it’s just starting to get nice here and I see all these people out running, who I know just started running because the weather’s been crappy, and I think “they can run… why can’t I??” But I was out running when it was 45 and raining, not 70 and sunny… (no, I’m not bitter) Luckily my husband has also been injured for a couple weeks so he’s not taunting me too much with his running … And I was just starting to get good at running…

I agree. I trained through the whole Minnesota winter, only to get injured when the weather started getting nice and the race season started.

The wife always get the good/cool stuff first. 2 of everything does get expensive.
