My Plan: Keep riding, no running or swimming. Wait until I am almost 70. Start to train race-walking. Enter IMFL in 70-74 AG. Survive the swim, hammer the bike, race-walk my ass off, win my age group. Go to IMHI. Finish. Get IM tattoo on wrinkled, leathery, droopy bicep. Die.

…wrinkled, leathery, droopy bicep
Yeah! That’s just what it would look like!
Kevin’s plan goes something like that too, but I told him he is going to have to take 35 years off of racing if he wants to be a contender. Doubt that will happen, so we will probably go through an ankle replacement and a few knee replacements so that he can live his dream.
ps Come to Clermont-we know some people who would love to get you started in race walking.
Hey! I have a few years to go before I am ready for 70-74!
That’s funny!
Thats right…watch out 30-34 AG’ers…The Grand Plan is to win my AG in the 2044 Kona IM when I turn 70. Until then…its just one big taper…well except for the next few weeks.
Great plan. I’m gonna hi-jack it. See you there.
I have a faster idea…you can go get a sex change…wait two years and race as a woman!!! You could maybe kick some ass…(as long as you are not in Marisols AG that is)
You know what they call those wrinly arms in England?
Bingo wings.
Brilliant scheme, BTW.
I hope you have already executed phase one of the plan: do no meaningful exercise before the age of 40, so that your joints are alright and nothing else is worn out.
THat’s funny. The same plan is written about in TriMag. It’s called “Plan B” … and we’ve all (secretly) got it.
In 40 years, they’ll have to have a “70yo+ World Championship”, b/c there’s gonna be 1,800 of us going for it … all in man-bras + speedos. I’m in.
"I have a few years to go before I am ready for 70-74! "
Just 16 more for me. Can hardly wait. Kona here I come - 2021.
Damn–we will be head-to-head. I shouldn’t have let out my secret plan.
Would be pretty neat though–both wind up there all those years later.
Maybe I am coming back too soon at 47. I think I will veg for another decade.
is that yours?
Have you looked at the race walking WR’s? They are right in line with the times the top male pros are turning in Ironman distance races.

Can’t imagine holding 7’ pace for 3 hours while walking. Probably get a “lifting” penalty by some crazy USAT judge/ref.
For the younger STer’s, how about this plan.
Train hard now, enter small, obscure races and place well enough to get a pro license. Retire and then come back at 70 further inflaming the pro’s vs AGer’s controversy. Even if Slowtwitch is gone by then, the debate will live on.
