My doping strategy

So, not I am NOT doping but am taking an extended period off to focus on the first kid and just training - no racing. With about the next year or so off from any races, it occurred to me what would prevent someone from doing the same and using that out of competition time to make whatever illegal (and legal) gains they wanted?

For me, I ended 2015 on a strong note with steady progress over the last couple years. Taking a year off then coming back in 2017 “stronger than ever”, I woukd just say Ive been doing incredible closet training. I mean just look at my progress to this point… How woukd anyone be able to say differently? This, of course, assumes I’d stop whatever I decide to take before I start racing again.

Race and train clean, dope, come back clean. Are people doing this? Anything in place to prevent it?

There’s at least one athlete in my area where there’s some strong suspicions.

Is this an age group athlete? What benefit, other than gaining a pro card, could someone really benefit? I know there are races with some prize money but nothing substantial.

There is nothing in place…!! Until recently there was very little in place for cheating during competition. My only thought is you’re just cheating yourself…!! Some people want that podium/Kona slot so bad they’ll do anything…!! Sad.

Sure it would probably work, but what is the point?

For a pro the loss of a year of competition/sponsorship during their short competitive careers is too high a cost.

For AGers the testing is so unlikely that even basic precautions (microdosing, no in-competition use, etc.) will allow them to dope while still competing. For AGers dope tests are intelligence tests.

This was what Di Luca did back in 2013 at the Giro. He was doped to the gills during his “retirement” and so wasn’t in the testing pool.

A day or two before the Giro he unretires and has managed to pressure one of the 2nd tier teams to bring him on. (Pre arranged of course)

Next day they test him and pop him for drugs. But he was still able to do half the Giro before the tests came back. Almost took a stage, too.

The one I’m thinking about is an age grouper and in no danger of getting a pro card. However, he has doen Kona several times in the 50+ categories.

You’d be amazed at the things people will do for recognition, adulation and worthless trinkets.

Age groupers, no, not currently.

Pros are in the doping pool regardless.

Sigh…

Heck, you can even cut a course, miss some mats and STILL get a slot…

Lmao do it bro
.

With 2 under 2.5, I think if I could take drugs they’d barely keep me above water let alone improve. No sleep, total body clock disruption, they’ve no sympathy for my training schedule and I have never been so consistently sick as when we introduced the infant Petri dish to our lives. I’d focus lesa on EPO and steroids and more on penicillin derivatives

Focusing on AGers, why is it always a 50+? Does something happen when you age that makes you apt to cheat?

Ha. Shows me what I’m in for…

testosterone…

when someone says “you have no idea” and you brush it off…until you have them, you have no idea…

I figure I’m 6 months or so from being out the woods with the first in terms of - fairly independent, walks everywhere, can be taken out in public, is “mostly” potty trained and has been since she was 2 and a bit, sleeps from 7.30 to 4…30-5 am 6 nights out of 7-ish which is a hell of a long way from where we were 6 months ago though I think any chance of her sleeping longer is basically a non-starter now…

second one, we’ve done all the things with her we should have done with the first but didn’t…live and learn

not sure it gets any easier though, at 43 I spend most of my day feeling like I’m completely wrecked

Dude, you’re never out of the woods. It never gets easier, it just gets different. My girls are 23 and 27 now. I still get calls in the middle of the night when things aren’t going right. The biggest difference is that now it makes me feel good.

It doesn’t get easier, it gets different…We have a 16yo (stepson for me) and I’ve seen the 11-16 evolution…Around age 14, they go from you being the most amazing person in the world to you being a complete idiot who does not know anything especially about kids because you’ve never been one
From what I’ve heard from friends, it could be a lot worse, aside from the occasional attitude, he’s a very good kid…So, good luck.

As for the doping question: you’re not sick, you don’t need freaking drugs.

I appreciate that, but let me delude myself for another 2.5 years and then I’ll cross that bridge when i get to it
.

I am sure its going to be completely fine, teenagers cant have anything on the terrible two’s…
