Musings from the long run

I’m sure like most of you that your mind wanders on the long run. Yesterday I got to thinking about how many strides the “average” age grouper will take on the Ironman run. That got thinking about how many strokes they will turn for the swim and how many times the pedals will revolve on the bike. My guess:

Ironman distance race:

Swim: 2400 strokes
Bike: 28800 revolutions
Run: 15000 strides (or steps)

My guess:

Strokes: 3041 (18 per 15 yards)
Pedals: 32,400 (6.75 hours @ 80RPM)
Strides: 18,000 (4 hours @ 150 SPM)
.

3042
32,401
18,001
.

Damn those Price is Right rules…

9,211 poor short strokes
45 mins in the recovery tent
23 12oz beers to drown sorrows…

No wait, that’s just me…

Does 150 strides per minute for 4 hours = 36,000 strides or are you doing a regular RPM with right fot to right foot = 1 stride?

I run at a cadence of 90-94, so for 3.5 hours I would take 38,430 steps for the IM marathon.

Bike is about 85 RPMs for 5.25 hrs. = 26,775 pedal strokes

I don’t really know about my swim.
