Mtn. Bike wheel bags? Do they exist?

Transporting mtn bike around with at least the front wheel, sometimes both wheels off. Mtn bike wheels with bigger tires won’t fit in the wheel bags I use for my tri bike.

Does anyone make wheel bags designed specifically for mtn bike wheels? Any recommendations? Thanks.

According to google you can get them.

Are you trying a singe or double wheel bag? You may have more luck with a single if you’re not already trying that. Skinz claim their bags fit road or mtn wheels. I haven’t tried them myself though.

Just trying a single wheel bag. I have a handful of Mavic wheel bags, but my front wheel from my mountain bike doesn’t fit in any of them.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Skinz bag, just looking for something someone has actually tried and is sure they will work.

Anyone have any firsthand recommendations?

Did you really take the time to reply just to bust my balls? And not offer any sort of help?

Maybe you missed this part, “Any recommendations?

I use the cheap performance bike trans-it wheel bags. They’re not padded bags, but hey they’re mountain bike wheels.

Thanks for the rec. Guess I should have specified, I am looking for something padded as the car gets packed pretty tight and I like the piece of mind from the padded bag.

I’ve used these for carrying our MTB front wheels with no problem…not sure how big a tire you are using though, and I haven’t tried front/back wheel for MTB, just tri race wheels.

Just pull off the tire

Pretty much, yeah.

your first post basically said “Hey, this is what I want and I’m too lazy to do any research”, as opposed to something like “I’ve looked around and I found x, y and z. anyone have any info in these or other recommendations”?

I have a Mavic CrossMax bag I’ve been using for like a dozen years now - came w/ the wheelset when I bought 'em.

Haven’t used it for a mtb wheel in ages, but it fits my Hed Jet90 very nicely these days.

Anyway, assuming Mavic still makes those bags for those wheels, then I think you should be good to go if you get your hands on one of 'em.

I figured people would assume if I was posting this I had tried the basic channels and hadn’t had luck. Hence, why I described not being able to use the wheel bags I use for my road wheels and that I was looking for recommendations.

Didn’t realize I needed to prove exhaustion before posting a question on ST.

Well at least now you’ve finally learned that lesson

I’ve used the “Triathlon Bag” wheelcase (it’s some kind of weird german import company that you can find on ebay, or at least you could a year or so ago). They’re advertised as road wheel bags, but they fit my Crossmax wheels with 2.1 in tires.

I could have sworn it was in the FAQ somewhere…

Don’t sweat it, I’m just cranky today.

Is your square? Looks like this?

I couldn’t imagine it would be so hard finding wheel bags that would definitely work for mtn bike wheels. Any one else have any recs?

Pretty sure that’s the one. Looks nearly identical to what I have.

Dunno how fat your rubber is, but I have some DT-Swiss bags that are definitely roomier than the standard Mavics, although they aren’t marketed as road or MTB-specific.
