I have a set of Avid Juicy 7 (carbon) brakes on its way to me. The OE brakes on the Redline 29er just dont cut it at all anymore. BUT, I know I need some sort of adapter to attach the caliper to the OE fork on the 29er as the holes are in the wrong plane…would love to install a lighter fork, but not a priority at this point (no susp)
Your local LBS should have the adaptor. They are typically a pretty standard piece.
If you do not have enough stopping power, you may want to go with 185mm front disc rather than a standard size (if you havent already). It will do MUCH more for your braking power than changing calipers or going from mechanical to hydro.
No no, I have crappy OE Tektro “V” brakes on it now…oh, and I AM my local LBS. I just never play with MTN bikes. Reading the pdf from the site it seems the front wont need anything, and the rear ships with it…I think, not sure however.
The Redline should have IS (international standard) mounts on the stock fork. Your Juicy brakes should come as a kit that includes the adapter to mount to IS. It needs to be right for your chosen rotor size as well. Sometimes if you purchase brakes as an OE takeoff they dont come with the adapter, but they would be easy for your LBS to order.
If needs be post a pic of the fork with the stock brakes.

You hit the nail on the head
I dont think I need one for the front…rear I am not so sure about. I will be in Madison for most of the week and I am certain that more than one shop up there will have what I need. My plan is for the 29er to be my transportation on race day this sunday.
would guess that the Redline has IS mounts front and rear as post mounts have only gained popularity more recently. On an IS mount the bolts that mount the caliper assembly go in sideways towards the wheel and thread into the caliper (or adapter), post mounts have the bolts thread straight into posts on the fork or frame. Juicy’s will mount directly to post mounts (with 160mm rotors) without adapters, and to IS mounts with adapters. So you will need adapters front and rear, just make sure you get the right one for your rotor size. You may need all the braking power you can get to dodge all those milling triathletes and spectators…

See, that is my question - I cant figure out what ones I need to get and would like to have them on the bike long before this weekend. Avid nor Redlines site show clearly what one of the couple ones I need. 8" front 7" rear rotors.
OK, for the rear you would need a 180 IS adapter. For the front a 200 adapter. I am assuming the front is also an IS, does the fork have a couple of small nubs with holes drilled all the way through?

Yep, nothing like on Tracys bike that has dual susp and Juicy Extreme calipers…hers go right into the fork, mine are 90deg from the fork.
Yep, she has post mounts, you have IS mounts, so you need the adapter for IS in your rotor size.

If you ordered correctly, front and rear with correct disc size, you will get everything you need in the boxes from Avid calipers, hoses, rotors and levers. You also don’t need anything bigger than 160’s unless you plan on using the bike for lift served downhill riding.
ps: 29er are addicting aren’t they?
