Should the saddle height be same as road bike? I’ve heard they should be lower. Why? Seems it would cause knee pain.
the same. lower was an old school thing. it went out with bear trap pedals and hiking boots. at least, for mt biking where you actualy pedal the bike - i cannot speak for the hucking crowd.
Some folks run longer cranks on their mountain bike requiring a slightly lower seat position to reach the bottom of the pedal stroke.
It depends on what type of trails you ride. Fire roads you can ride at the same height as your road bike, technical stuff is better ridden with a slightly lower saddle position so that you can shift your weight around more easily and get off the back of the saddle.
Thanks guys. I’m new to MTB, but I signed on to do a 3 day adventure race in December with over 100miles of MTB! Should I put a quick release on the seatpost collar? I remember reading or seeing this done. The bike I’m using, Schwinn Rocket 88, doesn’t have a quick release collar.
Aloha.
