Moving to Paris with newborn and 2 cats......HELP!

Sorry posted to wrong forum.

Wife works for a large multinational firm. We were expecting her next position to be in Geneva where she has previously lived and we have friends. However, the company threw us a curve and is sending us to Paris this summer.

Neither of us have ever lived in Paris. Wife is fluent in french, I can get by as a tourist(order food, ask for directions) but am not fluent.

We will be moving with a newborn. 1st child due April 12th.

We also have 2 cats. One of which is dealing with lymphoma.

Wife’s office will be in the vicinity of Asnieres. We desire the wife’s commute to be short(30-45 minutes) so that she is able to be part of the newborn’s life. I will be a stay at home dad.

We are hoping to rent a house(will go on house hunting trip when baby is 2 months old.) with a small garden. The only absolute requirements that we have are english speaking pediatrician, vet and GP.

We are looking for advice as to places to look to live. Company will provide an english speaking relocation agent but my wife has learned over the years to not necessarily trust the agents as they do not always have the movees best interests at heart. Also are looking for a place that is good for running and biking but at this point it is not as high a priority as english speaking doctors.

Any advice as to resources to locate and contact english speaking doctors, etc is appreciated. We know this is difficult until we have determined where we will be living.

We are just beginning our search so we know that over time the list of questions that we will have is only going to grow.

Any assistance/help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

This is the kind of post that makes me really friggin jealous. I lived in Paris for 6 years as a teenager and go back every chance I can. For medical professionals I would probably start with the American Hospital in Paris. https://www.american-hospital.org/index.php?L=3 I had two fractures set there. During the time my family lived in Paris we never had trouble finding an english speaking dentist, orthodentist, physician, etc.

Right - this post makes me think I’m doing too much cycling.

On reading “moving to Paris with newborn and 2 cats…” I initially thought you were moving there with a newborn child and several 2nd cat cyclists!!!

Hi,
just saw your post now…
this site has good info for people moving: http://www.amb-usa.fr/

regarding english speaking doctors off the top of my head - not really sure (but I think the American Hospital is a good start)… I have a book at home that has a list of English speaking doctors… let me know if you want some names and I will get them to you later

looks like she will be working NW of paris… so the big decision for you is do you want to be within paris (inside the Peripherique) or not… I would recommend being inside, but with a newborn, maybe the priorities are different.

Bois de Boulogne is pretty close for running and cycling, but it will get old - not really sure about NW of the city and where to ride

feel free to pm me if you want more info

one more thing… Are you planning to live in paris for a while (over 1 year)? will you be driving? If the answer is yes to both, then I would really recommend reading up on “driving in France” from the US embassy site - basically you can exchange your USA lisence for a french one but only from certain states… if you miss the window (1 year) then you need to go thorugh the full process of getting a french license (total pain and expensive)

if you make sure you have a license form a state that is expected by france before you move everything will be MUCH easier

bon courage!
