I imagine this has come up several times but I’m new here and new to triathlon.
I have a 2016 Cervelo P2 and want to put a carbon wheelset on it and want as much aero benefit from the width of rim and tire combo. I have seen riders using a rim that is just a slight bit wider than the tires outside width. Has anybody used a 25mm wide rim with 23c tires or what has been best aero wise for this bike. Thanks

If you listen to Josh Poertner (and I do religiously), rim width should be at least 105% of tire width.
Tire width will also impact rolling resistance.
On the rear, I personally would go as wide as my frame permits following the Josh rule. I would make sure there is some allowance to not get tire or wheel rub if brakes don’t open perfectly, flex during climbs…
This is the specs for my rear wheel and I run 25mm GP5000 tire. Width wise, I still have a plenty of space, but if the tire is fatter than 25mm, it might touch the frame on the seat stay side. I do have 2016 P2 as well.
Hello, Sorry for never responding I stayed safe and put a 23 on the rear and have raced it like that all season with a 25 up front and on GP5000s Now want to race last race of the season on tubeless so am kicking this around. I built a new road bike from scratch and run GP5000 STr on it tubeless and its been great so thinking about going that way. I wish I could easily put on of the STr on my rim brake race wheel but with the sealant in there it would be a mess just to try it not to mention putting the road bike out of commission. I need to compare installed and inflated size between the 2 to see how the clearance is as well as measure my wheel to compare to your measurements. Thanks for responding last time and apologies once again for slacking haha
