I broke my second pair of Oakley’s last night and I’ve had it. I’m open to any suggestions for new glasses. I’m willing to pay for something that I know will last or be more durable than their plastic.
I’m not hard on glasses. They had been used a couple years but the thin arms have been too weak and that’s where both pairs have broken. I’m not too picky, but an interchangeable lens option would be great.
I bought these after my LBS told me to try them instead of the High dollar Oakley’s I was looking at. I absolutely love them. they come with 4 lenses(clear, rose, yellow, dark), a hard case and a soft case for 50 bucks.
I highly recommend them.
I’ve been using Foster Grant Ironman glasses for several years. They cost about $15 or so at Walmart. My current glasses have about 2 years on them and are holding up well. I used to buy expensive glasses like Oakley, but found they weren’t any more durable than the cheapy glasses. Plus, when I was skiing moguls real fast and crashed, I broke several pairs of the expensive glasses and that got to be too big of an expense. No doubt the expensive glasses are a bit better than my Ironman glasses, but not 5 times or more better as the price would indicate. There are times when it seems people only get the expensive glasses as a status thing, not because they are really any better.
Contact Oakley - you’ll be very surprised at their incredible customer service - you’ll get them turned around and back to you with a new frame - for probably only the cost of postage

Ditto that…a few yers ago I was having problems with arms snapping in the cold from the zero line, and Oakley came through each time with warranty replacements…and fast. You can help the process by mentioning how the other athletes in your tri club really like your glasses, but are worried about the durability, etc. Seriously.
thanks for the idea. It can’t hurt to try. These are their eye jacket version and they haven’t made them in a couple years. But - for the cost of a call or email it’s worth a shot. I’m still going to look for other options just for a change.
They have a replacement guarantee. I have the “Crush” model with interchangeable lenses and they are w/o a doubt the best sunglasses I have ever owned. You can’t beat their prices either.
I also dumped the Oakley’s, multiple broken pairs, and NO help from Oakley customer support. I wear Smith’s and have been very happy with them for the last couple years.
I’ve sworn off Oakley’s, I’m way too hard on them. I picked up some Boston Bill sunglasses at Gulf Coast this year for $30 each. I can’t tell a difference in the lenses. The Boston Bills are a lot lighter too.
a friend who wore a pair of half jackets fell after hitting the rear wheel during a TTT…the lens cur his cheek it required like 8-10 stitches…i was using my rudy project rydons during a training ride, fell over the bars(do not ask why LOL) and may face scrapped the road but it only scratched the lens and then before i completely stopped the lens popped out automatically and didnt cut me or anything but my better halfs helmet was in 7-8 pieces though…
Some of the construction safety glasses have come a long way over the past few years…uvex have lots of different styles and go for under 10 bucks usually.
The new Rudy Project “Impact X” lens formulation is not only impact resistant but also pretty flexible. That means the most common sunglass killer- sitting on them or smashing them in your gear bag/backpack probably is survivable for Impact X.
I can partially use my concussion to claim ignorance of what happened.
My friend and I had just finished riding Marshall Canyon in San Dimas at night on our mountain bikes. (Not relevant to the story other than as an excuse to point out how rad riding single track at night is.) While riding back to the car side-by-side talking on Baseline, the only thing I remember is trying to extricate myself from a tangled bike and the rear of a parked car. My friend says I hit it going 20+ mph, with the smashed rear window one of the loudest sounds he’s heard. In my defense, it was a bike lane and the car was illegally parked. Not much of a defense, but. . .
I owe my eyesight to the Eqynox’s and perhaps my life to my helmet. Got an insurance paid ride to the hospital in an ambulance and the opportunity to wait a few hours until got around to picking all the bits of glass out of my face. I must have been a pretty obnoxious patient, as my friend and I occupied ourselves playing fart tennis and other juvenile games while we waited. Who says 40 is mature.
I have had a horrendous time just getting glasses from Oakley. True, it’s been M frames which have about a gazillion different options that doesn’t explain my hassles.
Finally, Oakley ended up givng me a total of 3 frames and 2 lenses (I bought a 3rd lens so I have 3 complete glasses now) all for the price of 1!
I am really happy with them (except that I still don’t have the actual lens I wanted) as they do exactly what I want. Great running and cycling glasses
The one thing my wife says about Oakley (she manages the countries biggest optometrist here in NZ) is that they are overpriced crappy glasses, but their replacement service is excellent.
I’m an anal retentive guy and I treat my glasses and sunnies with respect. I either wear them of have them in a hard protective case. They never go on the car seat for example! I can only hope they last longer than you have experienced.
