I am glad the bill’s author picture is up here, so you can see the definition of stupid. His entire career has been focused on relaxing or eliminating laws designed to enforce immigration. Guess what, if you don’t have a drivers license, you aren’t getting auto insurance either.

My n=1 experience. While driving a 1955 Porsche Spyder (James Dean car) replica that only had a lap belt, which is period correct, I had a biggie of an accident. An undocumented guy w/o license driving a borrowed car pulled out of a strip mall in Laguna Niguel CA trying to make an illegal left turn. I t-boned him going 40-ish. My face hit the steering wheel and dash knocking out 7 teeth and pushing another 5 flat backwards. The minimum insurance is 15k?? Insurance is with the car, not the driver. In my case, the borrowed car’s insurance was current. Guy was let off with nothing, and borrowed cars insurance paid me 15k and was done. Problem is I will rack up about 200k in bills for treatment plan that is still about 1 year from end (accident was Dec 08).
Bottom line, I believe people should have to follow the law. You lend your car to someone who doesn’t have license and they get in accident, it should be a criminal offense to the lender of the car. Either that, or claim the car was stolen and go after the driver for theft. There is no teeth anywhere in dealing with undocumented folks. JMO

Did they catch the driver who hit him? Was he an illegal alien? I’m familiar with the area where he was hit, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the driver was an illegal alien, but hadn’t heard the offender had been cought.
wasn’t caught, but my recollection is that they located the car, and verified that the owner and presumed driver of the car was illegal.
