More adjustable cockpit?

Hello slowtwitchers,

I currently have an old, integrated vision carbon cockpit that has the aero bars coming out of the base bar. It looks like a really aero set up but unfortunately doesn’t fit me well and is very uncomfortable to hold. I have Zipp Vuka Alumina bars that I cut to fit but the system doesn’t have any adjustability other than raising the arm cups.

I’m considering redoing the front end and don’t mind using aluminum pieces. Anyone have recommendations for a base bar and extensions that offer the best adjustability to rise, tilt, and allows me to try some different positions? Looking to piece together something on a budget. I’ve seen the Felt Bayonet 3 recommended but can’t seem to find it for sale anywhere.

The newer Vision Trimax is pretty adjustable.

I love my tririg

How much can you stretch your budget?

The money no object answer is the alpha one.

The aero on a budget… I’d go with the Shimano PRO aluminum Missile basebar and the clip on design of your choice (Zipp and PD both have lots of options for fit)
You’ve got a little more hardware, so a little less aero likely, but you get full adjustment by the mm in tilt, length, etc.

A lot of the “middle ground” (price wise) integrated options are going to require you jumping through hoops with angled risers, shims, etc. Which is certainly fine, but adds to the budget and isn’t a great way to “find” the right fit, more for after you are totally dialed and want to move over to one of those cockpits.

Thanks for the recommendations! I’d love to splurge on the Tririg or Vision but probably going to go with something more basic like the PRO Missile until I get my fit dialed in. Not even sure what size stem or bar width/drop is optimal since I’m so used to these uncomfortable bars.

Is that bar superior to the Zipp Vuka Speed Weaponry or other basic aluminum bars? Those tririg bars are as much money as my bike (2014 Felt B14 at $800)!

The missile looks the best of the base bars to me for the $$$… it or the older PD Svet. Something about the Vuka looks weird although it likely isn’t a huge difference either way.

Basebar doesn’t really matter, of the Profile Design alloy ones the Ozero TT was basically the same as carbon models (for aero) as it was hydroformed.
For a clipon, you’re looking at a higher stack model (so not a PD subsonic or undermount from PD or Zipp)
PD Sonic has a lot of adjustment and is the most cost effective, Sonic/Ergo/50a is the model I fit most often
PD Supersonic costs more and has a bit more reach range
Zipp Alumina clip ons only have one extension grip style, so if you’re happy with that aspect of what you’ve got the Alumina top mount would be good.

really you need to work out what direction you’d like to be able to make changes. Tilt is easy - all clipons can do that
More stack - PD have a wider range of riser options. Zipp have some
If you want pads closer to saddle, that could be a different choice of aerobar (and stem) than if you want more reach
More elbow width - both PD and Zipp can deliver that on all current models
