Which course is faster? I’ve done Mooseman twice, finially am able to do T-man this year.
I hear that they’re similar but Mooseman’s a little bit tougher. I did Mooseman last year and am pumped for Timberman this August.
I’m 1 minute faster on the Timberman course but it was a different day so really how do you compare?
I always swim like crap at timberman and really well at mooseman. Doesn’t mean a thing.
I think the bike is harder and slower at mooseman. It seems more technical and the hills are in all the wrong places.
The timberman run is harder, more up and down.
I’ve gone a few minutes faster at Timberman, both races are tough but I’d give the nod to Mooseman as being slightly tougher where it’s a more technical bike course. Run course at Timberman is a bit tougher, swim a bit choppier there as well due to the current. Both races are great.
If there was current wouldn’t it be called “River Winnipesaukee”?
I would imagine that most people would be more fit at T-man than M-man just due to the time of year, so if all things are equal I’d expect a faster time at T-man. At least, that is my plan for this year!
My vote would be for Mooseman being a tougher course. The bike is more technical and hilly than Timberman. The swims are similar. Both are generally calm (Timberman '06 being the exception).
I think the runs are similar in terms of difficulty as well. Mooseman may be a bit tougher. Timberman is pretty flat for a run, with one short hill on each loop, plus the long slight incline for about 1/2 mile on each loop…
Mooseman has quite a bit of flat terrain on the run, but has a short steep hill on each loop, and a couple of other hills…
I’d say alot comes down to the conditions on race day. There were some very fast times at Mooseman this year, especially compared to past years. Lots o’ prs, which I found surprising.
Timberman is faster… maybe 10 minutes or so at your pace, however the run is tougher.
If it’s a windy day the wind can really chop up the lake. As Keith mentioned, in 06 it was particularly tough out there. The entire swim portion when swimming parallel to the shore was quite difficult.
