Mooseman (Newfound lake) Cancelled...now what to use as IMLP prep?

Such a bummer that they cancelled it.

But that said, now that race I was hoping to use as a spring board for IMLP is gone, what do people think:

White Mts. Tri at Franconia Notch, or

Rev3 Quassy?

Quassy and let me know what I was missing
.

How about Syracuse 70.3 or Tupper Lake Tinman?

I have done them both and both are great preps for IMLP.

IM 70.3 Kansas in June - great bike course with some nice hills to get you ready for IMLP!

Quassy 70.3 is filled :frowning:
There’s also North Country HITS, an olympic and half in Hague, NY. If the bike course is the same as last year it has some good hills. +1 on Tinman, heard it was a great race, just a little to close to LP for my taste.

Tupper Lake Tinman.

Another vote for Tupper Lake. One of the oldest races around. A classic.

Don’t be scared of the independents!

The reality is if you do a bit of digging you have lots of racing options. HITS, other local races. Maybe other further afield. Expand your horizons.

Steve, Mooseman is no longer a WTC race and became an independent race. He has reason to be scared of an indie race as they just cancelled the one he was registered for due to lack of interest. Sometimes WTC might actually know what they’re doing… like realizing Mooseman had reached its useful life for whatever reason.

Indeed. No debate there.

There is no question that micro-issues can trump, a larger vision or plan. Clearly that is the case with the WTC - compare say, IMNYC vs IMTremblant, last year.

Because of the size and scope of the WTC/Ironman now, they need to go for some level of standardization, on a number of fronts with their events. That’s “normal” in any business.

Lack of interest for a wtc race to be cancelled is far different than a lack of interest.

Ok, let me clarify. I live in Southern Vermont. The white mountains tri is 90 minutes away and has some good climbing (or so it appears, 3000+ ft in 56 miles). Quassy is closed so thats out, but it was my next choice owing to proximity.

Tupper lake looks great and I’d love to jump in, but its a bit close to IMLP for me too (someone above noted that as well). I’m looking 6-8 weeks out to have a final nutrition check and then get in one last training block before LP. I did mooseman last year and this felt good for me in terms of timing. So I’m leaning to White Mts. now.

Who else is doing this? Anyone ridden the course yet?
thanks for all the input.

True. Apparently once Mooseman fell under 900 or so they pulled the plug. I wonder what the “lack of interest” number was for the new race. Under 200???

Oh sorry I didn’t realize that it was cancelled by the new company also. But yeah it was the same thing with Branson, it’s not like it was a small race last year. But too small for wtc, I’m glad rev3 picked it up.

How about TOUGHMAN IN on June 1st?

x2 on Tupper Lake. If you are a light and efficient runner, 3 weeks out is not that bad. If you are a heavier guy, then the recovery penalty from the run might be harder. Most light guys and most women, no problem recovering from 3 weeks out.

Another and probably better option is to join us for The Whiteface Hill Climb and Epicman which is evening of June 6 and all day June 7. Probably the best prep for IMLP. I can’t count the number of Kona slots whose path went through Epicman LP.

x2 Mooseman was a very successful as an independent race for a number of years. It only took WTC 3 or 4 years to destroy it. Maybe that’s what they wanted…

tell me about these.

What about the inaugural New England Trifest in Fairlee, VT on Sunday, June 30th ?

Usually I put up a thread around 3 weeks out from Epicman. A few years ago it was getting too big (around 75-100 people) so I have kept it more low key in the last few years so that it stays as a training day for a bunch of guys who show up and not a major event of sorts if you know what I mean. Here is the thread from last year.

Seriously though, the Epicman two days are better training for IMLP than any half IM.
